Airport Pat Down

My KISS idea:

Get rid of the TSA and all the dang time-consuming security checkpoints, and let us all carry the weapon of our choice!!!

I'd bet dollars to donuts that if a would-be hijacker/bomber knew he might get

or

or

or

or

by gramma in the seat behind them as soon as they even attempted anything, they'd think REAL long and hard about pulling any crap here.

I am by no means defending anything or anyone. You got to think that there are substances that a metal detector cannot pick up, hence the p@nis bomber. Does the TSA do a good job, that is questionable but I like to think they try their best. We, the public, also have a choice go though the xray thing or have a pat down. although I think some people would enjoy a free pat down:lmao:. You also have a choice not to fly. If they really wanted to make a difference then stop flying. You can take a bus, train, your car, etc so some of the people that are complaining are doing it just to complain. That is also a plus for me cause I hate flying.

Where does it end though? Should we just have the TSA break out the latex gloves and give everyone body cavity searches because they might have a plastic explosive up their butt that wouldn't show up on an x-ray? There has to be a line drawn somewhere before we are just a monitored society living in fear. THAT is what the terrorist countries are laughing at, the fact that they have made us change. They win.

My point is.. If a long-bearded man wearing a turbin and a robe walks up to the terminal and has a strong Arabic accent, and any other clues that he comes from a country that is know to support terrorists, then f'ing search him and stop tiptoeing around acting like we need to search everybody when we know that 99.9999999% of the people are perfectly harmless. Hijackings aren't anything new and nothing near the scale of 9/
11 has happened since. It's hype. Make the people feel unsafe and they will give up their liberty for security. Think about this... even if we kept doing things just as we have for the last 9 years, you and your families chances of being involved in a terrorist attack are probably less than getting attacked by a polar bear and a grizzly both on the same day.

The shoe & crotch bombers were just initial attempts...if they had been successful, then you think that the terrorists would just stop after those two attempts??? You wouldn't think that they would do it more often?? They are basically testing our system...we need to be alert and possibly be ahead of the game.

You wouldn't think that terrorist would find a way around profiling?? You wouldn't think that they would use a little kid to do their deeds??? Hell, even in the Vietnam War, the Vietcong would routinely use kids to carry bombs.

And the fact that some Hong Kong kid got thru securities in two countries...you think that our enemies can't do the same??? Profiling has its limitations.

So, just because attacks have been few, we should keep status quo???!! I would like you to tell that to the families of the victims! IMO, your viewpoint is as much of a problem to this country's security as Obama.

I disagree with the depth that they should be searching. IMO It's not ok in a free country to violate everyone's privacy because there's a one in a 300 million chance that someone may be a terrorist in the airport. There's just as much or more of a chance that a kid could bring a gun or a pipe bomb to school, but to make sure that doesn't happen would require daily strip searches of our children. That's just not America. I'm sure some poeple wouldn't mind letting a stranger see tham naked or groping them, but I know many many people that would feel harrassed and uncomfortable by that. And that is something that has never been a concern in our society. These aren't the pat downs you would get at a concert or something, these are all up in your business.

Every time we adapt our way of life to these rotten greasy bas****s, they win. I'm not the only one who doesn't want to cave to the fears and hype over terrorists. If they want to get a bomb on the plane they could shove it where the sun don't shine and elect to take the pat down instead. They are smart enough to figure that out and get around it. I maintain that these x-ray machines won't prevent them from committing terrorism if that's what they have in their heads to do.

In this country, if you give the government an inch, they will take a mile. Where does this end? What other sectors will they want to invade our right to privacy to secure? We are comletely invading everyone's privacy in the name of stopping terrorism, but we won't secure our borders as if we think the terrorists are too dumb to realize that the easiest way to sneak a nuke into America would be through Mexico. This policy is like sealing the windows for the cold, but leaving the front door wide open all night.

I don't get it. People complain if buildings get blown up, but they also complain when they have to be searched. The government can't win.

Obviously the security measures we had in place weren't good enough. So the American people need to decided if they want the possibility of hundreds or even thousands of people dead or if they will submit to a thorough pat down.

Here's a good solution I got in an email this morning:

ANOTHER GREAT IDEA FROM AN AVERAGE JOE! WHY AREN'T PEOPLE WITH COMMON SENSE LIKE THIS IN WASHINGTON ?

Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the
airports:

"All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will not
X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or
in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.

This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be none of this crap about
racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials.

This is so simple that it's brilliant. I can see it now: you're in the
airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an
announcement comes over the PA system, "Attention, standby passengers! We
now have a seat available on flight number..."

Haha...sweet! I am for that booth!!

Luckily I'm not flying or traveling this holiday weekend. If I was traveling, I'll gladly get X-rayed while the rest of the travelers protest and go for a pat down. It's like an express line. Whatever is the fastest way to get out of standing in line and get me to my seat is my preferred option.

Would you prefer to have someone touch your junk or walk through a scanner where they can't see your face and be done with it? It's all one's head if you think the screener is getting off on your junk.

The joke on everyone is how much of a farce our airport "security" really is...

Airport security is an illusion; just a show for the sheeple and nothing more. It's really sad just how easy it would be for someone with real intelligence to pull something off.

Amen, if you think that these things are making flying any safer you are kidding yourself... read further for more info on that.

I don't see what the problem is. I would much rather be patted down then have an airplane blown up.

see thats over sensationalizing things... this is the attitude that americans have adopted out of a false fear... there have been zero plane explosions/hijackings since 9/11 using the OLD security methods...

Just keep letting the government implement these privacy invading rules that take our liberties and you will have NONE left.

the fact is this, that the best/most secure airports and airport security specialists in the world dont use these scanners and dont think they do anything. Full-body scanners are waste of money, Israeli expert says

Think about the Israelis, the targets of most of the suicide bombing every year and how many planes have been hijacked from their airports?? well, the security specialists that designed their security say that these scanners dont do anything except invade privacy.

the fact is that all the government did is give some company a couple billion dollars for nothing and in the process invaded our privacy and took our liberties.

Thai, funny, I figured you for an ultra conservative type that would protect every liberty you have been given, not give them up without a fight.
Personally, I would rather die with my freedoms and liberties than live with some government official grabbing my crotch in the name of bogus security, you know whats funny is being a citizen of a country used to mean being treated with dignity in your own country...

Please, Please, Please dont just let this stuff happen, complain to your senators, congress people... dont fly.

Do Something.

Wait, how can you forget the crotch and shoe bombers?? They ONLY failed due to incompetence, NOT because the "old security method" worked! The new security screening method would have caught these bombers BEFORE they even reach the airplane. Or are you just hoping that all the terrorists are as incompetent? I would not bet on that!

BTW, it does take some planning (years of training and planning!) to pull off something like 9/11...so, i would not be jumping for joy just yet....

Ahhh...the Israelis argument. True, i read up on their method. Quite effective. You are videotaped everywhere you go in and around the airports...even on the highways leading to the airport. They follow and individually interview the passengers before the flight. Now, based on the answers given, the airport folks can do a thorough search for your body and luggage. Somehow, i got a feeling that these searches may even be worst than TSA's....

How many passengers come and go in Israel? How many airports do they have? Now, compare that to OUR country. Their average annual traffic does not even match one month worth of US air traffic. They have two major airports they cover, we'd have 450+ to cover 24/7...and US folks do fly quite a bit since our country is so large.

What Israel does over there is nearly impossible to do here. Our multi-ethnic population would also be negatively screened.

An excerpt:

When hiring people to do profiling, Yeffet said, they must be qualified staff, "very well educated people" with at least a college education and fluent in English and at least one other language. "We test them always. Anybody who fails is fired. We have no mercy because we are dealing with lives," Yeffet said. "The problem with the TSA is that they don't have experts, they don't have qualified people."

Now, where do you think we can find over 50,000 of these qualified people to screen ALL of our passengers in EVERY airport in the USA?? Our national debt will be even worst! Good luck explaining that to the taxpayers!

Different country, different solution. You can't just use one country's method and think that it will work across the board!

I would think training the employees they have now to be more qualified would be less than the cost of the screening machines. Even if they gave everyone who is trained a raise. I don't know if that's true, I'm just specualting, but those machines must be uber expensive too.

I believe if someone has it in their head to sneak a bomb on board, they will find a way around the screening machines. I just feel the machines are much more of a harrassment and invasion of privacy to American citizens than a deterent for terrorists. Suspecting that every American citizen is a terrorist until proven otherwise by a invasive pat down or a naked x-ray is asinine IMO and goes against the ideals of living in a free country IMO. I say leave that crap to the Commies and the dictatorships. You could take out a lot more people by blowing up a Walmart this time of year, you don't think they should start doing full body scans at the entrances to malls and big dept. stores do you? What's the difference and where does this disregard for liberty end? What about sports games? Concerts? Heck, why not church too? I hope you guys can see this is a Pandora's box that we are opening and expecting the government to stop there and not extend this to other areas of our daily life is naive IMO.

Difference b/w walmart and airplane is that there would be minimal damage at walmart. You need a big bomb, which is not exactly easy to conceal. But, don't worry, remember, the Oregon kid recently tried to do a similar thing too...so, again, the terrorist will blow up walmart too if they can get enough explosives in one place without the FBI all over them. Don't jump for joy yet.

In an airplane, you have a closed environment...a small simple bomb can be deadly...and not to mention the possibility of that plane crashing into a populated area...aka maximum damage for a flea market bomb.

Come on, you guys are getting paranoid at the WRONG group of people! I am surprise that you guys haven't mentioned the possibility of 9/11 as a hoax by our government to impose more crap on us?!!! You guys need to focus your energy on OUR TRUE ENEMY here...and it ain't Obama (and yes, it does hurt me to say that!) or our government!!! Somehow, you guys think that the government came out with some elaborate body scanner (very high tech btw)...just so that this will be a stepping stone for total control of US citizens???!! Really?! Wow.

The scanner is, more or less, a one-time fee. Paying a highly educated person to screen passengers is not. And with the massive workforce that is needed, how do you know if the screeners themselves are not in cohort with the terrorists??? Look, i appreciate Israel's method, but it does not work here. If this was so cheap, then why don't you think our government use it?? Hey, in some ways, it is even MORE invasive than the current scanner and patdowns...they have cameras EVERYWHERE...and people follow you everywhere to observe your actions. Background checks go real deep. Trust me, if our government use Israel's methods, then i would hear from the same folks now about how invasive it is.

Suck it up if you want to fly. If not, then don't fly.

Suck it up if you want to fly. If not, then don't fly.

That statement says it all to me. Comply or else. I'm not paranoid that it's a government hoax, but when's the last time you gained a right or a liberty? They only get taken away more and more as time goes on Thai. Maybe it's too gradual for some people to notice but that doesn't make it false. To think this won't lead to more security measures and surveillance in other areas of our lives is giving the powers that be way too much credit.

Every year in this country we loose liberties and I for one am tired of it. I do not wish to live in a monitored society that doesn't trust it's own citizens and I will fight for my right to be trusted until there is reasonable evidence to suspect otherwise. "Innocent until proven guilty" seems to be more and more casually ignored by law enforcement, but it is one of the foundational ideas of this country and is intregal to a free society. Otherwise you have a country of "criminals" that just haven't been caught yet and everyone is a suspect by LE. Our founding fathers knew how important that concept is, but it seems our current leaders couldn't care less about that. That's already how LE sees a big portion of our population - as suspects. That's where you get sayings like "driving while black".

Getting on a plane should not make me a suspect of anything - especially when I have lived here in this country my whole life. I agree that foreigners should be subject to stricter screenings because they are not citizens, but the fact this country admits it no longer trusts any of it's citizens is a huge step in the wrong direction of a free country. Old man Witherspoon and his 92 year old wife now have to submit to a ridiculous screening so the guy in the tunic next to them that just arrived from Sudan won't be offended.

Brian, i understand your viewpoint...trust me, i am a gun owner and lifetime NRA member. But, you know, airport security and what it means to my and my family's safety is different IMO.
