Here is something for you guys to figure out: I bought my 4runner in January from a dealer in PA. He had got the truck from an auction. When I went to hook up my lighted pedals, my brother-in-law noticed a whole mess of wires up under the dash. Come to figure out my truck had a remote start/alarm on it! We just left it alone because it wasn't hurting anything. Well, a few weeks later, a friend of mine helped me put in my stereo system. Well, this system must have interfered with the alarm thing, because my truck started to act all possesed and screwed up! I would drive down the road and my doors would lock and unlock at random times, when in park (or the truck turned totally off), the lights would flash and blink and it would make a beeping sound, (i guess the alram was going off) then one day i went down to my truck and the alarm started going off, and my truck wouldn't turn over. I knew it had to be because of the alarm, because i had no problems with the truck otherwise. So my brother-in-law came down and we removed the alarm thingy. He called it the "brain." I have had no problems with that type of thing again. So has anyone else had a problem like this?

Never had this problem but removing the brain is definitely going to stop it.
Something you might want to do, or could have done is checked out the make/model of the alarm and seen if you could find a replacement remote for it... if it all works ok you could have had something to protect that new system already installed.
Just a thought.

I would find out where that brand is sold (mfr website) and go/call there. Tell them the model of alarm and that you need a new remote. They might help or at least point you in the right direction.
Thinking about it some more, you may have a big headache on your hands if you reinstall that old alarm, or even if you install a new one. The strange happenings you described in your first post will probably not be fixed by getting a remote. It sounds like whoever wired the original alarm didn't do a very good job or something happened to the brain itself to make it go all haywire. Either way I'm not sure a new remote will help that problem, but may be cheaper than buying an all new alarm.
