It's very frustrating to watch, I too wish the 2nd gen's would pick up the pace some. I'm convinced it's the best built rig on the show.
Anyone else notice the lack of lockers? Maybe they are not using them much, but it's crazy to be out there without working lockers.

They noted some form of traction aids in one or both axles in most of the trucks when they briefly and poorly showed vehicle specs.

That said, I'm taking said specs with a grain of salt because they also said the CJ had 44" tires (actually 37", the max size for the "competition") and that it had "two transmissions" (it's a SM420 w/ a Ranger overdrive unit).

The D90 is presumably locked f/r with ARB's--they appeared to be unocked when it got "stuck" in the sand...but you could see all four digging when they were winching out. More manufactured drama...

Who wheels across alaska and doesn't bring some water. Like how did they need water from the river? Dumb show. Fake drama.

In the first episode when they didi the run down on the truck i think the only one is the 2nd gen with a spool

So i've been intently reading this thread to get me by since I haven't actually watched it. My DVR caught a rerun of this show at like 2am on a Thursday or something....

Now that i've choked down the first episode, all i can say is... i'd rather watch it with the volume turned all the way down.

Oh and the navigators... sweet baby jesus who told them to talk so much. "Hurry up man!" "Shift! Lets go!" "Be Careful!!!"

Also lets not forget. This show was an idea that someone had, they pitched it, spent all the money to record it, edit it, etc etc etc... then they pitched it to the History Channel who then bought it and sold advertising around it. This is canned entertainment at its finest.

All in all It's pretty painful to watch... But, like [MENTION=94587]jcoleman[/MENTION] said... i'll watch it anyway.

The first gen overheated five miles in?!? And lost half its coolant? I like how their solution was huh lets just let it cool down for awhile, not maybe look for where the leak is coming from. Oh yeah, they probably already know because the producer dumped a couple gallons of water on the exhaust manifold.

As others have said, prepping your rig for the "race" doesn't seem to have been a big priority to the teams.

Also, I love them and all but the FJ 55 is about the ugliest damn thing I have ever seen.

Not the best looking Landcruiser for sure. I want that louvered fender vent for my engine compartment!

I would use that show as a lesson for beginners on what not to do when off roading.

It's like watching a train wreck, but I just can't help myself.

TONS of manufactured drama, but, it's trucks in dirt in Alaska, so i'll watch it... its kills me how they barely try to edit these shows and will string together a pile of shots to tell whatever story they want.

Is it better than the other crap on TV...unfortunately yes.

Stumbled on this show last night. Oh my god was it bad- is the fat blonde guy with the mullet really that much of a wuss?

However, seeing the Classic and the 2nd gen loaded up and in action was fantastic.

Slowly becoming convinced that the show is produced by the Sierra Club Eco-Nazis in order to portray off-roaders as bumbling buffoons hellbent on destroying the sacred wilderness. Then they can push to get us banned. I'm still watching tho! :cheers:

They must have pre-positioned fuel at camp. None of then are carrying enough fuel to have gone 40+ hours of wheeling without a fill up.
Gotta give the Rover guy some credit... He drove that thing pretty hard.

I love the look of that 2nd Gen! Such a clean build. I hope it wins. Super Jeep is a cool rig, and the time that Carl has put in to it is incredible. Definitely like the guys in the 1st Gen though. They just seem to keep on keepin on!
