Alcantara vs Suede inserts for leather seats?

Anyone out there have the Urban Runner with the Alcantara inserts? I heard Alcantara is a textile and suede is an animal hide.

What are your opinions and pro's cons out there. We know that suede is a pain to keep clean.

I have read that alcantara is stain proof, water resistant and very durable..

does anyone have any opinions on Alcantara material they use for seats inserts that looks like suede?

Im looking to get my seats re-done in leather and may want to go with the inserts.

Runner with Alcantara. I dont know if I would use that much Alcantara on my custom seats.

Alcantra is a synthetic, not a hide like suede. Personally, I really like the look and feel of it and think it would make a very attractive custom seat with real leather bolsters, headrests, etc. (unlike our fake leather on Urban Runners :) )
 
I was going to incorporate the Alcantara or go with a black leather seat with perforated center? What are your ideas on this?
 
Alcantara was first used in sports cars because it has the ability to keep passengers from sliding around versus leather seating surfaces when cornering hard. That being said, IMHO if choosing Alcantara and perforated leather for the 4Runner I would go with perforated leather because it would breathe more in the summer. I do like how the Alcantara interior looks though, so either way you can't go wrong.

Alcantara is definitely the top grade synthetic fabric same feel substitue for suede - and it is way more durable and easily cleanable. Our kids have been jumping and playing on our terracotta/orange Alcantara 'Togo' sofa (from Ligne Roset - see pic) for about 7 years now, and it is barely showing any wear. Indian food, red wine and milk have all come out from gentle hand cleaning, with no discoloration. Mind you, in terms of general wear, it has been covered with a blanket daily except when the kids are not around or when company is over. So, for car seats - I would estimate you will start to see the alcantara slightly 'pile' or show slight wear in about 3-4 years of gentle daily use - so worth careful consideration. Personally, I would only use the alcantara on accent upholstery in the vehicle - and not on the seats for this reason.

What a great picture of the very comfortable looking couch. I was thinking about the wear issues as well and may opt to have it put in on the seat inserts. I dont know its up in the air. Im thinking about going all black leather with perforated inserts or do a different color leather insert?

Your thoughts?
