hey Guys, been searching the forum but haven't gotten the answer im looking for. looking for a set of tires for my 05 v8 limited 4runner.
I think I have narrowed it down to the cooper tire brand but not sure about what model.
I commute consists of 95% highway and 0% off road or towing. I need something that will be great in the snow and on ice is possible.

looking at the cooper discoverer srx or at3 or the at/w or any other you can recommend

I ran these year-round up here in Canada on my 03 V8 - very good traction in the snow and on ice (for an all-season tire).

Cooper Discoverer SRX tires were second on my list - their price should definitely beat the Michelins.
 
I agree with boss man up there. However another good tire for your needs is the Bridgestone Duel error Revolution. I was amazed with this tire when my t4 was my company vehicle. Great on dry asphalt, awesome in the rain and icy roads coupled with snow covered roads.
 
^^^ the Micheline was * is a great all around tire and has been for decades.
I had them on my 3rd Gen and currently on my 4th gen.
Good traction and wear in all conditions. Reasonable price.
 
For your use the Michelin is probably the best and will last the longest.I have 73k on mine right now and they easily have at least another 30k left. I was interested in the Coopers for my next tire as they are cheaper, but I know 2 people with the Discoverer AT3 on a truck and SUV and they will never buy again. Both say they are terrible on ice and wet snow.
 
Another LTX m/s 2 driver here. Have had it before last MN winter and handled well. Also, no complaint on ride quality.
 
check out kumho road venture a/t. Also check out Nokian they are one of the only true 4 season tires finding dealers however isnt easy though.
 
Have enjoyed my Cooper AT3's up in the northwest rain/snow.... No slippage or hydroplaning in rain, have done excellent in winter snow, miles better then the stock Dunlops that were on it before. That being said I don't have any comparison as this is the only A/T Tire I've had on it but it's done the job well and at $700/set of 4 mounted/balanced OUT THE DOOR, the price was good too.
 
One more for the LTX MS2s.i run them on 04 daily driver here year round in the Colorado high country. They run smooth, give great gas mileage, wear well and work great for all but the most adverse conditions. But having been caught way out on unplowed mountain roads with a foot or more (not counting drifts) of snow on the road I was feeling like I'd have felt better if I'd beeen carrying chains. The For a slightly more aggressive tire I run General AT2s on my 93 which are harsher riding, seem hard to balance, will yield less mpg, but are fun in the dirt and excellent in winter driving. I carry chains in this truck but the only time they've been on is for sizing. The 93 does just fine on the Generals without chains even plowing up to about 18" of snow on my twisty driveway with 15% grades. Much more snow than that I'll chain up.
Different tires for different circumstances.

I bought Fuzion for mine 3 years ago. I replaced all 5 tires and was happy about it.

Big fan of the Cooper at3. Great all weather traction here in Upstate NY. Nice aggressive look.

I was going to get the LTX but didnt want to spend that much. I bought a set of Mastercraft Courser MSX touring tires and they are great for what you want. They cost a fraction of the Michelins!
 
Sorry to bring this old thread back up. After reading through and doing a few searches, I have some questions. My 06 limited is due for some new tires. It has 170xxx miles on it, so I’m a little weary on buying Michelin tires for it. Who knows if we’ll be training it in on another vehicle in a year or so. This vehicle is 100% road use. No towing, no off-roading. We live in Kansas so we get all sorts of wacky weather from snow, ice, rain, intense heat. I don’t want to purchase anything super cheap since my wife uses this vehicle with our kids in tow. Any recommendations? I was looking at the pathways from discount tire, continental cross contacts, Goodyear assurance max life, and many others. Also I’ve searched locally for someone selling their stock tires so they can upgrade and haven’t found anything. Thanks for your help. (I’m not against Michelin’s either)
 
KUMHO CRUGEN HT51. So far its gotten rave reviews and basically a Michelin Defender replica at half the price. Check it out on tire rack.

I had them on my wife's old SUV. We only had it 1 winter before trading it in but those tires did great.
