All terrain tire recommendations

hey everyone!
Im about to order my 2.5/1.5 daystar kit and ill be ordering some 265/70/17s to go with it. Im looking for an all terrain tire that holds up decent. there wont be a whole lot of off roading, but when i go id like them to get the job done. im trying to keep my budget around $650 for the tires. Any recommendations?

I will highly recommend the Falken Rocky Mountain ATS (Wild Peak AT). I had my 265 70 17 installed for $668 and here is how.

Discount Tire Direct offers the Falken for $142 per tire (no sales tax in MN on internet purchased) and no shipping. Discount Tire store says their install price is $24.99 per tire with a TPMS rebuilt if you bring in your own tires. There is only a $1.50 difference between bring in your own tire and buying from the store plus you avoid paying state sales tax, a nearly $50 savings. (I know I know, I am suppose to self report internet purchases but....)

As for the RM ATS, I really like them, only 2,000 miles driven so far and no off-road yet. They are as quiet as the Kumho HT tires I replaced and I thought the Kumhos were the quietest tire I ever owned and reviews are well above average off-road. I internet research to death anything I buy and found that the Falkens are the best bang for the buck.

I paid $600 for Nitto Terra Grappler A/Ts from Discount tire. I havent installed them yet but they are a good looking tire. I just wished they had white letters on them. All I'm waiting on are the wheels to get back from powder-coater which should be next week.

I had a set of Cooper Discover ATR's....They are really good in the snow...and had no problem doing some off-roading when camping with them. Lasted about 50k miles also...so I was impressed with them. A bit noisy though...but not too bad...

I would recommend the general grabbers at2. I didn't look to see if they have the size you want but both my parents and I love them. I have about 40000 on mine and they are just starting to wear a little. I picked them up for $115 each for the size 265/70/16. They are a little noisy but traction is good for an AT tire. Get a lot of snow up here in Maine and with the full time 4 wheel drive they have yet to let me down. For the price and how long they have lasted I recommend them to all my friends!

I'm running the Firestone Destination AT's and I'm very happy with them so far. They perform great on the road with no noticeable road noise like I've heard from other AT tires and they handled everything I threw at them so far off road. The price was around what your looking for. I haven't tried them in snow yet but I believe someone will chime in with more experience than I on that subject.

I love my BFG all terrains but with your $650 budget I do not think you can afford them. Probably you will have to go with one of the china/korea made tires.

I've heard good things about Toyo's Open Country A/T and M/T's

Actually considering the M/T's for my Rig.

I'll bet you can get Nitto Terra Grappler or Toyo Open Country A/T in P265/70/17 within that budget. Very good tires reasonably priced last time I checked. Both are constructed with nylon cap plies (two) which not only enhance safety and durability, but I think it also shows that the companies are willing to spend a little on something that makes the tire better but does little to nothing for sales. My perspective is that there's no reason to buy a tire these days not built this way.

There may be other tires mentioned here that are similarly constructed but these are two I've researched.

i have had the nittos on my 08 runner and they are amazing. i have had them in sand, mud, snow up to the bumper and they have done everything i have asked of them. its actually hard to break tires free on a runner without getting the DANGER DANGER beep.. haha.

I'm with Paul B on the Falken Rocky Mtn, had mine for 1000 miles, I really like them. they are an ATS which means AT focused on street. Mine installed with road hazard and lifetime balance and rotate for $700

I'm gonna go with a set of Destination A/Ts when these Revos 1s wear out.

I think they are about the best bang for the buck currently.

Checkout the Yoko Geolandar A/T-S. A set of 4 is $552 + shipping at TireRack.com.

Been running these for about 8 mos with 17,000 miles on them. So far I am satisfied with them and they fit your bill.

I have had 3 sets of Nittos between my 3 4runners and gotta say a great tire but my next set I am really wanting to try some goodyear duratracs

I've been running Nitto Terra Grapplers and the 4runner is my DD. This winter will be the third for'm and they still have plenty of tread left. I have a lead foot and take turns hard. As was said previously, it's hard to get'm to break loose and they've handled everything I've thrown at them. :thumb3:

I have the Firestone Destinations A/T's and have been really really happy with them. They look pretty aggressive, are quieter than my old Yokohoma highway tires and had no adverse impact on fuel mileage.

I got minw from a Firestone tires shop for $698 out the door including the road hazard. That was a buy 3 get 1 deal where you had to get the road hazard but it's worth it. I've already had two holes from big nails and they fixed me up in 20 minutes free of charge
