Alpharex MK II NOVA vs OEM LED?

I want to swap my lights for aftermarket ones from alpharex.
I had them on my 2019 and liked them. I'm just not sure if the new LED ones from them are same/better/worse than the OEM ones I have in my 2022.

I cannot say for sure with data, but I'd almost certainly bet the Alpharex would be a drop down from the OEM LED in terms of ultimate light production, cut off, etc.

Alpharex is also not known for its longevity or reliability. I'd leave your OEM LEDs and be happy you have them (unlike those of us with crappier old halogens).

agree with this...stick with the OEM led headlights. I have a 2017 and swapped the OEM led in and I have no complaints. Yes the after market looks cool and all but longevity is questionable.

The general concern with Alpharex head lights from what I've heard and seen on this forum is longevity and premature failure of specific LEDs in them. You probably would be better off with the OEM if you want optimal light output and best reliability.

Not going to disagree that Alpharex lights look cool though.

If you really want the after market look, I'd consider Morimoto as at least they've been known to stand by their warranties and generally seem to have a better chance of lasting.

From what I have read, Morimoto is garbage as well but I haven't seen too many issues with Alpharex, at least when I purchased about 6 months ago.

I think the Gen1 Morimotos had a lot of issues with premature failures. They've rev'ed the lights a bunch since then and I know at least they'll actually respond and deal with warranty concerns (which it sounds like your email to Alpharexx goes straight to someone in China).

I will say my Morimoto tail lights are holding up pretty well and are now over a
year old. I swapped them in after cracking my passenger side light wheeling when I hit a rock wall in a narrow sandy canyon squeeze (oops!).
 
Had Alpharex Luxx on my wife’s 4R. Light output was directly in front of the vehicle and could tell my eyes were straining to see down the road. Replaced with Morimoto V2 which she still has 3 years later. No light failures but they are starting to yellow. It was garage kept for 2 of the 3 years and only put 10k miles on so that’s a bit concerning. Light output is fine. Actually loved the output until I got my 2021 with OEM LEDs. Whenever we have to drive at night, we choose the 2021. Something about them makes it easier to focus down the road than the Morimotos

this sub-optimal lighting issue is well documented. however, it was probably designed this way because most of our vehicles will be lifted and concentrating the light output right in front of you is better than sending it out and into other cars rear view mirrors if you're aligning it correctly

my alpharex novas failed prematurely, luckily i bought them through TRS so worked directly with them to get a warranty replacement. the new set doesn't play well with my stock bumper fitment however . . .

they do look very good on truck though


there's no perfect headlight for our application, every option is give or take

That’s a big assumption. More likely the Chinese factory that actually makes them does not employ a lighting engineer to design their optics

i agree its a huge assumption, and also gives them the benefit of the doubt too

the gen2 version of the novas use all 4 leds for low beam instead of just 3, unknown how/if that changes the beam pattern or not

This is the only output shot I could find of the V2 Novas. You can see it is super bright right in front of the vehicle and tapers off pretty quickly. I would not want to drive in more rural areas with that pattern

They are though. They are stamped on the lenses with the DOT/SAE regulations they meet. I would agree they aren’t tested like the OEMs are and they are of lower quality than OEMs since the OEMs like Toyota have a much higher incentive to get you to come back to their brand

mostly, but not in all cases

a custom projector setup (done right) will outperform 2021+ OE led headlights

and aesthetically they're inferior to the aftermarket setups

there's no perfect headlight setup, everythings give or take
