Denso is obviously the first choice for OEM, but overall, what all brands are considered GOOD?

There are actually a lot of good brands, but it depends what amperage you want.

Do you know what the stock amperage is for a 2003 4Runner with the v6? I was thinking of looking for an HO alt in the future.

do you run a shorter belt with that alternator you have?
i know i asked mechman and they recommended me to run a 1/2 to 1 inch shorter belt with there alternator, my alternator did went out on me after there 2 year warranty, i was 2 months pass, but i sent it in and they replaced the brushes for me for free, i didnt abused it, so they hooked me up.

I am. Think it was you that recommended it in another thread. The Camry belt I believe.
