Alternator replacement oem or aftermarket

Hi all. 2007 4runner V6 alternator is dying at about 88k miles and needs to be replaced.

I can purchase one from dealer for about $400 or remanufactured aftermarket from local parts supply for about $180.

Any opinions on if ok to go with local parts remanufactured unit as the price difference is pretty substantial?

Check rockauto. Toyota uses denso as oem. You can find denso alternator cheaper than stealership.

Denso, doesn't matter where you get it from. Most aftermarkets are rebranded so take it out of the box at the auto parts store and physically read the labels on the alternator.

Rock auto has reman denso for ~$116

If you're planning on doing any electrical upgrades now would be a good time to consider a higher output alternator. I bought a 240a alt for right around 450 shipped (I think). That along with 1/0 gauge upgrade to my grounds, alternator, and dual battery system keeps everything charged without a hiccup even with a high drain going on. I can have my fridge going full blast, all lights on, air conditioning, and air up my tires with my OBA and my alternator doesn't even blink at the load.
