Alternators - Different Years = Different Output

I dont see why not.

I'm still going to do the GM CS144 Alt Upgrade. Too many Yota Alts have died after water crossings due to the open diode design. My buddy in his 2017 Tundra has to put an alternator about ever 6 months due to water shorting the diodes.

I am on my 3rd alt in 2 years, all dead after water crossings or playing in the mud.

I would imagine the high Amp tundra sequoia would have a similar design.. not creek crossing water proof..

I have both the 70a and the newer 80a Alts and neither one of them push more than 40-43a at idle in gear with the foot on the brake at 600rpm.

Once again what is smart? The VR (voltage regulator) maintains a certain voltage based on load and heat sink temp. The higher the voltage the higher the charge. Our rigs need around 15a to satisfy the electrical load of the PCM/ECU. Anything above that goes into the battery…..

What is smart about that. It’s been around since the first solid state voltage regulator was introduced in the early 70’s.

The whole smart alternator point isn't relative to our vehicles... hence this whole discussion. They're alternators regulated externally by the ECU, not internally.

Yeah if it's from the same time period I wouldn't have too much faith in the design being radically different tbh. Especially seeing how seemingly a lot of the Seqouia/Tundra parts are just barely different than ours
Still, an interesting alternative none the less

While I was searching for CS144 alternators I came across Toyota-cased high output for the 3.4L, it was close to $200

I passed on it and opted for a new Delco. I already sourced a 7mm spacer (locally) and the 3 pin to 4 pin adapter (ebay)

LC Engineering offers up to 320A - with a price tag to match of course. Even though that's wayyy more than anyone needs it's still pretty impressive nonetheless

To me if all they do is hotrod a delco Alt its still limited at low RPM.

That number is not at idle where its important. And remember if its still the same frame and now its 320a instead of 80a, its rating dehrades as the VR temp increases.
