Aluminum fender liners

Trying to gauge interest in custom aluminum fender liners for the 4th gen. These are popular with the Jeep crowd but for some reason not a thing with Toyota’s. Probably because no one makes them.

RCR4WD presently makes these out of mild steel which in my opinion is prone to rock chips damaging the powder coating with resultant corrosion. I am trying to get these guys to make them out of lightweight aluminum. As you can see, these offer significantly more protection than the stock liner.

I have no affiliation with the fabricator. I just want the product made.

Price point $299 if I can get 20 people interested. This spans other models that share the same platform including the GX460, 5th gen, Tacoma, and FJ.

Just to clarify and answer some questions raised. Stock liners cover 33% of the fender area. These cover 90% and decrease the amount of water, mud, snow, gravel thrown at the engine. Not to mention yes, there is an aesthetic component as these look pretty damn spiffy. These are designed to flex with rubber grommets used to mount these to the stock holes. No additional drilling. No metal on metal sounds or rubbing. There is no increase in pebble or road noise for road use. Obviously this will increase with off-road use.

I dig em, but the price point seems a bit on the high side to me. Inmo, this is a $150-$200 per pair product, which would sell like hot cakes, but at $300, not so much. I would also only consider buying if they could have aluminum or stainless frames for the reason you mentioned. Here in the NE with sales roads, the powder coated steel “might” last a year, then they’d look like crap, so I wouldn’t even consider a steel version at any price point. Just my $.02

They make them in that price point in mild steel powder coated. That won’t last long in the fender well in my opinion, and it’s worth pursuing aluminum for the extra $100-150. I would keep them bare but I can imagine folks anodizing these any imaginable color...

Compatible with shock tower gussets?

Hey some idiot at the Fab shop threw away my rad rubber I got from toytec so I need new liners.

Are these compatible with shock tower gussets from Total Chaos?

Good question. Due to the modifications that occur around the shock tower, this kit will likely not bolt up with those gussets welded in place. Best to go with rubber replacements in this specific example.

Sorry from what I understand that price is for bare aluminum. The powder coated mild steel version is already available. Worth the additional cash for aluminum IMO.

There was a request for additional clearance for aftermarket UCA adjustment. The answer is yes. Additional clearance for those with aftermarket UCA’s will be available upon request.

We are halfway there on day one guys!

There was a request to have additional cooling via making a few cutouts up top in mesh or perforated aluminum. See pic below. Allows for more air flow through the radiator. I will ask RCR to hash out the details in a bit. Similar to the one pictured below. My guess is these will end up being somewhat customizable.

I placed an order with that company beginning of Jan with a 4-5 week lead time that turned into 3 months with the shipping date still being pushed out. I just got my money back from the Paypal dispute

That is concerning. I think all newer companies go through growth pains and I am fairly certain this is no different. Either a problem getting the material, or the man power to do the fabrication. Will ask the fabricator to clarify. I have not purchased a single product from these guys. Just want this product made.

[MENTION=151307]alextmullis[/MENTION] confirmed with fabricator. They couldn’t get the product done in time. They apologize for the inconvenience.

They assured me that once enough interest is demonstrated, they will make sure to get the material. Once material is acquired lead time will vary 4-8 weeks based on customization, (UCA clearance, vents, etc).

Duuuuude you're in Bellevue? Do you have these on hand? I'm in shoreline today and could swing by the East side and do a test fit of sorts to see if it needs major modifications to work.

Stay tuned. A request came in for a set compatible with extended travel and external shock reservoirs. If the fabricator is willing to do that level of customization shock tower gussets won’t be a problem.
