I've got my rig lifted and have off road tires on it, even though it's a 2WD and has only been lightly off road. I know I'm not the only one on here either.

With good tires and a small lift, a 2wd can look great. You can do some light trails, but there is a lot of stuff you simply can't do in 2wd that you could walk through in 4x4. Don't let that stop you though. Who knows, you may love off-roading so much that you decided to swap in dual cases and an SAS front end.

my tires are ok I guess I wanna keep it as stock as I can since after all it is my dads I just love em tho, I'm trying to save up and get myself another 3rd gen 4wd but actually lift and mod it. is it lame that i wanna put TRD decals on it even though it has no supercharger nor is it 4wd? I'm a big toyota fan love the newer tundras and the good ol AE86 Corolla

It's your truck man. If you feel like something would look cool, like a TRD sticker on the side, then go for it. If your friends make fun of you for it, just roll with it and be yourself. Don't let anyone tell you how to mod your truck. Build it the way you want it, and you will be happier in the long run. '
If you are looking at another 3rd Gen, then I wouldn't really do any "mods" to the 2wd 4runner. Just hang onto your cash so you can afford the best 4runner to fit your needs.

Noticed you're in sin city...you could build it into a prerunner and have a blast. you might need to plant a money tree in your back yard though....

Im with these guys. Im a 2WD on 35's and I've tore some stuff up. Here in Florida there really isn't any rocks or anything, but i've came out of some pretty hairy trails.
And I thought about selling mine too, but being my first car and the memories, I'd like to 4x4 swap. Maybe manual locking hubs to take away some of the electronics aspect of the switch.

thanks man! Will do, I saw one the other day but sadly my young 18 y/o self is broke
once I do have it though it'd be pretty nice to find a 5 speedsame here. theres a little mountain/hill thing with caves at the very top It's pretty steep but my little 2wd got up there with no trouble so I'm pretty confident. but I feel like here in vegas it's just flat desert all the way around and any real place for any kind of trails even easy ones, is too far

I'd say keep the 2wd mostly stock and clean. Save up $2500 and buy a 4WD beater 88 pickup to restore and take off road.

This is exactly what I was gonna say. 2wd you learn how to drive. Lot of throttle control (or lack of sometimes), plenty of balls, decent tires, and you'll get more places than you think. Then again dont try to do something your 4x4 buddy just had trouble with. Be smart, know your limits, and I see no problems.
