I used to be a Jeep guy all throughout the 90s and early 2000s. Jeep made great vehicles back then. My first jeep was a 91 wrangler which I drove for years and never had 1 issue. Then I added a 90 cherokee to the garage with the birth of my first son in 93. The dogs, kids, wife and all my friends loved our jeeps. They allowed a young family to explore the great outdoors and get places no one else could and always got us home. They were trouble free and well built. I then upgraded to the grand Cherokee v8 when our 2nd child was born. That might have been my favorite car. It was fast could tow the boat with ease look great stock. The Jeep was a well built vehicle and I continue to buy them cause they were a true adventure vehicle for a young family and didn't cause me alot of unnecessary repair bills. That was then and now Jeep is owned by Fiat and they cut corners to save a dollar. When former Jeep owners up here talk about the Jeep and say they loved it for 10,000 miles or the loved the radio or the head lights I laugh so hard. That is a ridiculous endorsement of a vehicle that now has been given a "do not buy" by consumer reports for years. My buddy's 2017 Rubicon has 50k miles and he has had the transmission replaced and the rear diff along with a bunch of other repairs. Our last ski trip he rode back with me because the Jeep broke again. My 96 300k forerunner has gotten us home every trip. 25 years old and in 3 years my 3rd gen has seen the shop far less than his 2017 wrangler. My other buddy just replaced his motor at 140k in his 2010 wrangler. My 5th gen has never been in for a repair just regular service. Who cares about how old or outdated the 4 runner is when that transmission is solid as gold and that 4.0 motor gets me home with zero issues. If you need the latest nannies then buy a cross over but when I'm 50 or 100 miles from any help I need a reliable vehicle that can get the job done so I can enjoy the back country. I like a solid vehicle first then features 2nd if I'm buying it. If I lease it then I go German, but that is another story..lol.

I agree that Jeeps then > Jeeps now. Our WJ and my TJ's were some of our favorite vehicles we've had. I also really liked my 2000 Dakota. But alas, the TJ and WJ were the last good Jeeps. I also didn't like how the oil filter drained completely at shut off on the 3.6 Pentastar. The top end noise on start up - especially if it had sat a few days, made me cringe every time. I couldn't bear keeping it outside of factory warranty and decided to trade it for my Tundra.

Problem is, now I can never decide which one I want to drive more - the 4R or Tundra!

I agree that Jeeps then > Jeeps now. Our WJ and my TJ's were some of our favorite vehicles we've had. I also really liked my 2000 Dakota. But alas, the TJ and WJ were the last good Jeeps. I got rules to which vehicle I drive. The 3rd gen is the vehicle driven when the dogs are rolling. It is the only vehicle they are allowed inside. The wife's 5th gen is driven when she drives and we don't want to deal with the low power of the 3rd, snowboarding and other getaways. My Tundra is driven when I got to do truck stuff or my toyhauler needs to be taken. Fortunately all being Toyotas we know which ever vehicle we leave in we will come home in that vehicle. Even that 320k 3rd gen slow as she is always gets me home no matter how long where the road trip is.
