Amber delete or 100% clear headlights? Anyone do this mod?

I saw that you can get some vinyl sticker and literally delete the amber off of the 5th gen headlights which to me seems lame. This could lead to a lawsuit for modifying a safety device if your vehicle is involved in an accident, which by the way is a thing, if you modify your lights to a certain extent.

I remember when I had an M3 as well as a Shelby Mustang having clear corners was the thing to have. You just install an amber bulb to be 100% legal. A company named Klearz offered the best clear lens since they copied or used an OEM part to make a mold and make it avaialbe in clear or smoked or slightly smoked.

Anyways to my suprise researching how to do this mod I see Klearz offers a 5th gen 4Runner clear corner lens, to replace the amber one inside the headlight assembly. Only thing is you have to bake the light to soften the sealant to remove the lens.

My question is, has anyone done the "Klearz" corner lens headlight mod and were there any tips for when I do it to mine on how to best preserve the seal, etc?

I promise I will post pics once I finish the mod on my 2017 TRD Pro in Cement.

IMO, sounds like way too much work just to have a clear lens.

Plus I doubt the lens assy would be fully sealed after the swap. After the first rain or car wash, you are going to have a micro ecco system living in your light housing.

I did the Diode Dynamics 'switchbacks'. Running light are now white LEDs until signals go on, then they flip to amber for the duration of turn signal (or 4 way) flashing. Then they revert to white LED.

DOT approved amber reflectors on the front and red reflectors on the back are required. No amber bulbs will change that.

IMO, removing amber reflectors/lights is a car/bike thing not a truck or suv thing.

Well if my 4runner weighed over 10,000 pounds and was subject to annual DOT inspections this could be a problem but it's not so I'm going to install them.

check out Kustom54. but their headlights are $1K+

if youre gonna go thru with getting rid of the amber you might as well retrofit a better projector (Lexus IS projector with STI Clear lens) while youre at it.

I was actually just looking at his conversion/install. May actually do this.

Well if my 4runner weighed over 10,000 pounds and was subject to annual DOT inspections this could be a problem but it's not so I'm going to install them.

Inspection or not u can still get a ticket,although highly unlikely. Or if someone hits ur car when it’s parked on the road and says they didn’t see it because there’s no reflectors then u might be out of luck, but again probably not likely.

I think modded lights look cool, just not cool enough for me to go through the hassle of actually doing it myself or paying someone else to do it.

I've modded the headlights on my previous vehicles, and if you have a big enough oven, its not difficult to do.

I did the amber delete yesterday and probably will end up having to redo it because I'm not totally happy with it. It's a pain to get it to lay flush around the bends of the headlight and I was doing it in direct sunlight which definitely wasn't the right idea. If I were to do a retrofit in the future I definitely would grab up a pair of these smoked ones, however I'm not sure if/when that will ever happen.

Just went on there and built a custom set to see how much. $1390 with some of the options. They don't offer HID, just the Morimoto LED conversion. Probably not a terrible price considering it includes new Toyota light housings. Better than having to ship your own out and be without or source your own replacements.

I'm not sold on LED just yet. I would prefer HID. They used to offer the Lexus IS projectors back in the day but i guess not.
they do have a DIY kit for our headlamps starting around 450-500 ish. I'm assuming the lens is already baked off for us?

also fyi the headlamps are TYC and not oem Toyota.

I have Kustom54 building me a set now. and while the price does seem high (because it is), you also have to consider what you'd pay going in:

$300 TYC headlights
$440 MLed projectors
$100 Halo and strip

then you have to go to all the trouble building, painting and aiming them. I've done this before and it's a total pain. I'm also fairly confident that if I ever want to sell these custom headlights they will put some money back in my pocket.

I like a look that looks factory but is modified if that makes sense. I looked into the other options and they're cool but I think it's too much with demon eyes and all the color changing LEDs. That type of stuff draws attention from the cops for some reason.

yep i saw that too. i'll do the retrofit with the IS projectors one day. I've read up on other members here doing it and seems easy. I just have to have that itch to do a project like this.

Did my corners during my complete headlight upgrade. Very happy with the product. I have amber bulbs in the housing so it looks OEM when the headlights are on.
