Amsoil GL-4 manual transmission lube

Anyone used this before? Put it in mine today and went for a short drive. Shifts definitely seem much smoother. Excited to see how it performs long term.

I use Redline product, MT-90, which apparently is roughly the same thing. I like the new-age packaging on the Amsoil.

I have used both products for many miles in various Toyota MTs. Both Amsoil and Redline are excellent. The nod goes to Redline since shifts stay good for longer.

I went back and forth between this and Redline but I knew I wanted Severe Gear in the diffs and transfer case so I just added this to my order. As soon as I get the diffs done, it'll have all Amsoil blood in its veins. Once the shift quality starts to diminish maybe I'll give Redline a shot.

When I replaced the axle in my 91 Corolla I refilled the transmission with Lucas, since it's all I could get my hands on, and have been very impressed with it.

Went for a longer drive today and shifting is really only marginally better than the old fluid. Not sure what was in there, guessing dino.

Shifts are still a little chunky at times. Might not be fluid though...could be old synchros or the clutch wearing out or maybe just how that transmission is. Probably try filling it with redline this spring to see if it's any better.

I’ve run the AMSoil for near 100,000 km now. Mine prefers it over the redline. I found redline lost it’s nice shifting after 6 months.

My tranny has a 5th gear whine that is quieter with the amsoil also.

Nice. I used to run the Amsoil MTF (5W-30 weight gear oil) in my Hondas and it did amazing.

Side note: you can blend Amsoil MTG and MTF to get to intermediate weights. Same deal for Redline MT-90 and MTL (although they sell an MT-85 which is right between them). I'd probably run an MT-85 if I lived in a cold climate. I've run it before as an experiment and it works great.

On 2 Land Cruisers and a 4WD truck (plus this 4Runner), I never observed the "improved shifting' when going from dino to Mobil 1 to Redline MT-90. The one vehicle (4WD truck) I had shifting problems on wasn't due to the oil. It was a damaged input shaft. Oh, and the Marlin Crawler special transmission shifter seat never made a difference either.
I used synthetic because I don't have to change it as often.

I've used Amsoil throughout since I bought my '99 20 years ago and it's been the best. I tried GL-5 in my Corolla DD (tough shifting) but went back to GL-4 in it too. Beats dino oil hands down.

while my 4runner is an auto, I have used Amsoil in the 4runner transfer cases anad diffs with no problems. and will be swithching this one to synthetic, but Amsoil hard to get here ( few distributors and shipping is $$$$$ )

in my manual cars/trucks/motorcycles ( past ) I used the Amsoil. In my corolla ( years back) it seemed to help, in the dodge it took care of a 5th gear whine. In a chebby it did quiet down the differential. Noticed no difference in the BMW. Yet some of those things can also be just switching from old fluid to new. Up here I will switch things to synthetic but with whatever quality brand I can get my hands on.

but prob any synthetic is better than dino.
