And it starts....

This past weekend I was traveling out of town in my 2007 4runner V6(I was about 1 hour from anywhere) and I was fortunate to have my serpentine belt "pop"..pop is a nice word... :lookout: more like shred..! in the process it took out my power steering pump. After about 6 hours of shade tree engineering replacing my belt and installing a new power steering pump in front of the local gas station (I cleaned out my 4runner the night before and took out all my tools so had to buy those cheap-o tools from the local gas station: mmph:) I was up and running again. All the lights went off my car once I replace the power steering pump, and aside from the smell of burning oil, (power steering fluid is all over my under carriage )she ran well and I made it home. now that I am home she is starting to give me some issues......
1) driving when I stop at a light the red oil light will blink once and turn off... drive , stop at a light the oil light will blink once and turn off...
-i just change my oil about 1,000 miles and reset the oil maintenance light, so i know its not the maintenance schedule light, and all the fluids are topped off. Do i need to purge out the power steering oil?!?
2) when i am at speed on the freeway (65-70mph) and i release the gas pedal there is a "rattling noise" ( sounds as if two metal plates are flapping together and for an instant i thought that skid plate might be loose, check and all the bolts are tight)for about 1-2 seconds and it is really faint
- I am worried that the belt explosion might have done more damage than i can see and started a chain reaction; I visually inspected the engine ,lines/hoses, pulleys, etc.. and all seemed fine.
Im sure this has happened to someone else, any suggestions as to what the oil light blink and rattle might be?!?!?
Before this calamity my lil 4Runner ran like a champ, now i feel like shes hurting and I dont know what to do?!? HELP!!

Hmmmm.. I have no idea on the first problem, but the second could very well be a pulley. I know that you visually inspected your pulleys, but you really should check for any "play". Granted, you may have to remove the belt in order to do this, but this would be my first suspicion. It also might explain why your belt "popped" in the first place. GOOD LUCK!

Check your oil. It sounds like you're dangerously low. If I'm not mistaken, the red oil light is your oil pressure dummy light. When you're coming to a stop, the oil in the pan is sloshing to the front of the pan away from your oil pick-up tube. You say you just had an oil change recently and all fluids are topped off--but I don't know if you mean they were topped off during the oil change or you have checked the oil level since the belt shredded. Your original post was 2 days ago, hopefully you've already checked it.

I'm not familiar with the layout of the V6, but possibly when your belt shredded it damaged an oil cooler line (I don't know if the V6 has one).

As far as the rattling noise, do what preacher said.
