Android issues with 4Runner?

So I had an iPhone which gave me album art on the screen, a random and repeat option on the screen, and would show me the duration of the song and how much was left. Every time I got in the car I could just press play on the nav screen and it would tell my phone to start playing some damn music.

Well, I just bought the new Google Pixel XL phone and I get none of what I mentioned earlier. It plays the song and that's it. Some music apps I have to skip forward with the phone since it won't work on the steering wheel. Any one experience any of this?

I'm using a nexus 5X, and it started out fine (as described with your iphone). I have album art, track info, and the left buttons on the steering wheel will either skip (up/down) or track (left right) through songs. With it fully paired, the car would automatically start playing music from the last streamable service I used as well (personally use google music, but it has started playing youtube before haha)

the android 7 update has been a bit of a pain though. It will work as noted above for ~2-3 days, then it will drop the bluetooth signal and go AWOL. I can reconnect bluetooth, but I will only be able to control music from my phone. At that point it requires a phone restart, and then it functions as I want it to.

I'm not sure if this helps, but it is what I have had to deal with using the same android OS...

OK. I'm guessing it's because you have the Google phone and it gets the Android updates before every other Android phone, because it's a Google (Android) phone. It should eventually work itself out once other software has a chance to update and be compatible. That's the joy of having"bleeding edge" tech if you will.

Are you familiar with XDA? It's a forum, but for phones.

If not, Google your phone name followed by XDA. Being a Google pixel phone, which used to be Nexus devices, you will find so much information about it you might be overwhelmed. The Nexus devices were/are the ultimate phone for customization. I haven't had a pixel but I'm guessing it's much of the same. There will be custom operating systems(ROMS), custom kernels, numerous mods, and ways to customize your phone that will probably help you with what you need. Start by looking in the general discussion section and going from there.

On a side note: I have a OnePlus 3. It's based on Android and very close to stock Android aka AOSP. I'm running Android 6.0.1 and have no issues with Bluetooth or any issues you mention. Like I said it's probably because your on Android 7 and other software hasn't had a chance to catch up yet, but it will.

I am experiencing the very same issue with my Nexus 6 running Andriod 7. I actually have this issue on my 4Runner and my wife's 2016 Prius. And like OP my wife's iPhone 6s works fine on both cars.

I had the very same issue intermittently though when ran Marshmallow.

One solution that has worked for me is to connect to the car from the phone, i.e. turn the Bluetooth off, start the 4Runner, then turn phone Bluetooth on again and select the 4Runner from the Bluetooth menu which is a very annoying process.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S5 on a rooted Lollipop ROM and found that this issue is application specific when connected via Bluetooth. Try a different music application on the phone to play music. For myself I use Poweramp as the music app of choice to get the proper display.
I have a 2016 4runner, the JVC premium audio package and am NOT using the Toyota Android app. Your mileage may vary.

+1 for me. I have a Nexus 6P and it worked great until the 7/Nougat update. Now it's hit or miss on whether it'll connect. If it does connect, it only rarely displays the track into and allows steering wheel control. At first I suspected it was the app I use for podcasts, but this tells me it's the OS.

Mine won't display any track info until I either skip a song (steering wheel button), or I open Google music on my phone. If I already have the music app running on my phone when I turn on the engine, it usually works as desired.

I use a Samsung S5 and it works fine via bluetooth, using whatever the music player app that came with the phone.

I turn it on, it takes a few seconds for the bluetooth to sync, then it starts playing, but at the beginning of the what ever was last playing. It displays the album cover, the song, title, and can pause/start the song. ALso can jump ahead or go back using the steering wheel control.

It also works like this via website music, my wife plays stuff from her social media sites and it works the same.

Same issue with my Pixel XL it works for a bit then stops. Also had the same issue on my 6p etunes prob needs to release a software update for Android 7.0

Exactly... Like I said, Google phones get the latest and greatest but other software has to "catch up". It's all part of the game. Just from my past experience owning 3 Nexus phones.

You open Google music and use other apps and that helps?

I'll clarify this. When it is working, opening the music app I'm using will bring up the track info. When I skip ahead using the steering wheel controls, it had the same effect. This doesn't work when the phone has decided that it doesn't feel like working with Bluetooth though

I have an LG G5, and I recently got the 7.0 update. I don't typically play music from my phone, but I have been experiencing Bluetooth connectivity issues. Sometimes my phone connects, albeit slower than it used to. Other times I have to turn Bluetooth off/on on the phone for it to connect. I've also seen it disconnect after an hour in the truck. I literally ordered a pixel xl today, hoping it would solve this issue, but it's not sounding promising, though I'm 5 weeks away from getting the pixel. Fingers crossed.

I'm on a Pixel/nougat and have the exact same issues you described.

Also, sometimes I get album art and other things I get generic "genre art. " Not sure where that comes from as I have never seen the genre art in Google play music.
