annoying squeak at front drivers side on 07 4x4

Hey guys , i have a very annoying squeak going on at my front
drivers side. I believe it is suspension or possibly cv axle.
I did a 5100 @2.5 with moog fj coils lift a while back and never had
any problems. My angles looked fine as well. I never got a round
to doing the couplings over the boots so it has leaked. I dont know
what else it might be. It seems to be most squeaky at slow speeds,
on bumpy ground and on turns.
what should i inspect or look for?
any help is appreciated.

Do the 5100 use rubber bushings or Heim Joints? I had a similar issue with my vehicle where my Heim Joints on my OLW 2.5" coil overs got too dirty and started squeaking.

I think i narrowed it down to the top end of the shock. I tried spraying some
wd40 in various spots, but didnt help.

IF it is the CV axle joints, I found that mine by crawling underneath, grabbing ahold of the axle in the center, then firmly shaking it. You can actually tell if it is the inboard, outboard, or both, just by the feel. My driver's side inboard and outboard joints are bad. My passenger side outboard is just starting to go.

Signs and symptoms: (1) My driver's side has a subtle vibration when accelerating from a stop to about 25mph, then it seems to quiet down a bit at speed, however, there still is a subtle vibration in the steering wheel, almost like a tire that is slightly out of balance. (2) When coasting slowly in the neighborhood, especially first thing in the morning, you can hear what can be described as a rotational "swish, swish, swish". (3) When driving slowly over any bumps, small pot holes, etc., you can hear the metal-to-metal noise that sounds like loose parts. (4) It will produce a small amount of rotational squeak first thing in the morning, for about the first 100ft of travel, then it will quiet down. (5) There is a small amount of grease leaking from around the inboard boots on both sides.

Parts are on order. Should be able to tackle the project in a few days.

i have none of those symptoms except maybe the slight vibration, but i think thats the road that i drive on everyday because on a recent camping trip i didnt get none. thank you for posting this info. I will still get under there and check the cv axle like you said.

Are you still running a sway bar? I had the same thing until I took mine off, the bushings were shot.

I've narrowed it down to the top perch of the drivers side , i have the bilstein
5100s if that makes a difference. I had sprayed it with wd40 and it went away, but after a camping trip and mud and washing the suspension etc. it came back. The wd40 dont work no more.. It bugs the crap out of me pulling in to somewhere squeaking like a old grocery cart.

It is defineately from the top perch area but not sure exactly what is making the squeak.:frusty:

Check all your bushings. UCA bushings move a lot and get worn out. My guess is it's UCA.

I once had a terribly annoying squeak and I thought I had narrowed it down to my Coils but it turned out to be my LBJ. Replaced it and sure enough it was completely shot.

But the sound was literally traveling up the coils and making it sound like it was coming from my Coils.

I went through a full can of WD40 trying to diagnose the squeak :lmao:

On the bolt. Is it normal that the nut doesn't really tighten, i don't remember when
Installing them, the other side is the same way. Just keeps turning,unless i didn't tighten all the way and i need to.

am having a similar squeak...worse in the passenger fron side. how did you resolve yours?, mine has a slight runnery sound/feel to the sound

I had to hold the bolt that comes out the top of the strut with vise grips then tighten the nut securely.
