Another 5th gen flipped on Black Bear Pass...

Look's like another 4Runner flipped on Black Bear Pass Today, after just opening for the first time this year, earlier this week......Nearly went over the cliff, and into the creek leading up to Ingram Falls!!

I think it's fun to be off road and stuff, but that shit looks terrifying. I am way too big of a ***** to take any vehicle on a road that looks like that, certainly not something that costs $40k before adding bells and whistles to it.

It's a state road/highway so it's covered.

RTT on the roof certainly doesn’t help. Adding weight to something that already has poor COG should be approached with caution.

This thread reminds me why I still carry a basic tent, because you can’t use your RTT when upside down.

Same, glad I have a Awning and awning room instead. Easier to take down and setup.

Looks like a TRD Pro so that's 45 to 50k. Probably totaled. Extraction fees will probably be enormous. Insurance won't cover the tent.

He needed to hug the Rock and them make hard driver before the ledge so the front wheels go down at nearly the same time. This is where the independent front suspension is not good. Once you get the front wheels and go back passenger the solid rear axle will flex enough not to be a tilt issue.

I was going to say NO, but I also didn’t realize its an actual road/highway, that changes things.

Another answer is read your insurance policy terms / coverage limits. Most insurance policies have some fine print about off-road, drag racing, track use, or high risk activity where you are intentionally putting yourself at greater risk of accident might not be covered. I’m sure things like this would vary from company to company and will probably be evaluated by the claims people.

I off-road in an OHV area, away from any legal road or highway. I know I am operating in a scenario where I might not be covered. I have purchased off-road insurance in the past though Foremost Insurance but it was for something else.

I'm sure if this happened in the desert where I go, it won't be covered with standard insurance.

I also agree with the comment about recovery / extraction costs. It's your junk, and you are responsible for taking it home. It's going to be a significant cost.. i'm sure a sticker shock moment for most.

How does one extract a damaged vehicle such as this from a fairly difficult area to get to?

I'd imagine you can't just get a crane in there. Will a tow truck make it? And if so, how would they load the vehicle?

This. A skilled recovery specialist can get this back on its wheels rather easily with a vehicle winch or even a hi-lift assisted winch, especially with the anchor points around that area. Once it's rightside up it's just a matter of navigating back to more open, level area.

Before and after there are spots where you could get it to and re-group. In this vid at 4:50 to about 7:40 you get a good look at the area. YouTube
