Another 5th gen opinion

I had the chance to see the new GX at the LA auto show yesterday, I too was hoping the GX could be an option. The interior material quality is much more improved compared to the 5th gen 4R but aesthetically it was a turn off. I'm not impressed with the exterior styling either, looks Lexus generic, not really fond of the organic melted candle styling.

I agree that the Lexus GX looks "Lexus generic" and I think the best description I've ever heard is the "organic melted candle". Yuck.

Also, I agree that the 4th gen was very effeminate. The 5th gen finally looks macho.

Oh wells, I guess you and I will love our 4ths and they'll love their 5ths. To each and their own.

IMO, at least some other upcoming Toyota models look better again.
 
My first impression when I sat in a 5th gen was the interior felt a lot less personal. I don't know if it was the straight windshield or different design. Also, the interior felt like it was made of cheap materials.

The side opening rear door is a deal killer for me.

Okay today, I went to my local Toy dealer (Power Toyota, Irvine) to see the new 4Runner in person. My initial reaction was Wow, in a bad way though. Now I can surely cross off the 5th gen 4R of my short lists of potential vehicles. First of, the protruding headlights and tail light does not flow well with the body and has a tacked on look, looks worse in person than in the pictures, it is just too FJ cartoonish. What truly disappointed me was when I made my way to the interior, I was utterly speechless with the Tupperware dash and overall cheapness of the center stack, center console, door panel, etc.. Even the tilt/telescoping steering mechanism felt cheap and crude, it would bind and required some force to adjust it, unlike the 4th gen mechanism where it felt smooth and solid. I really can’t say anything positive about the 5th gen so here is the rest of the bad.
- Too much chrome on the limited.
- SR5 dash cluster looks tacky with the wanna be carbon fiber.
- Mast antennae,
- Lack of ground clearance due to the low bumpers on the limited and sr5 models.
- No locking gas filler door.
- Feels like your driving an armored vehicle with the upright windshield.
- Ugly steering wheel.
- No v8 but the weight is way up.
- Cheap looking fake leather on the door panel mixed in with cheap plastic.
- No sound insulation under the hood on SR5 and TE models.
- Did I mention the cheap interior…
Anyway enough of my rambling, but Toyota has truly let me down with each new vehicle they come out with. I just wonder what Toyota will tout about with their vehicles, surely it can’t be quality when they have a 4 million vehicle recall looming over their heads. I believe Toyota has reached its peak in quality years ago and will soon be passed up by others, if they continue this trend of absurd cost costing. In advance, I apologize for the negative comments regarding the 5th to any owners or 5th gen fan, I hope you’ll enjoy the 5th 4R, but for sure I won’t be one them.

I gotta admit, I kinda miss him. "johnnie" hasn't been back since he was dubbed " Captain tiny head" maybe we hurt his tender sensibilities? or He doesn't care for the moniker? or He is vacationing on the Mediterranean? or He got lost in a particularly challenging elevator at the Gym? or Anyone have an idea where CTH is?

It is actually quite possible He met the idiot that trashed the "New" T4R only to then buy one and add it to his Sig (which obviously appears at the bottom of his infamous thread post, They both looked deep into each others eyes (in the mirror, of course) decided to get Married in a State that allows such things and ran away together arguing who was going to carry who across the threshold......stranger things have happened.

Oh he's skulking about ... it's the preemptive strikes that've tamed him.

He likes us... secretly he wants a 5G bad, but his 4G isn't paid off yet, and his wife won't let him upgrade.

And CTH? Given the cruel, mean, and outrageous comments one could have about that avatar, this one is kind of.......weak. I'm sure some of my NY/NJ brethren can help. If not, go to a Yankee-RedSox game, listen, and take some notes. Then come back.

And Philsey, you have some hang up on me paying for my stuff. Kinda odd. I wash dishes at only the finest restaurants so no financial woes here.
