Another cracked dash

I've read similar threads, but now it has happened to me. I noticed a small 1" crack on the passenger side of my dash. I've only wiped it clean over the years with a damp cloth and my 4Runner doesn't sit out in the sun very often at all. It's garaged more than anything.

A new dash costs about $1,000 from the dealer. I wish Toyota would do something for us to help with the costs. It just sucks that my '04 looks brand new inside and out, except for the dashboard.

Next time use 303 aerospace protectant? Actually if you use it now it would likely stop the cracking as best as possible...

good luck

From what I've read, guys are still getting cracked dashes even if they've used 303. It seems like nothing can prevent it, given time/age/exposure to UV rays.

Pics? haven't seen that yet.

I never took a picture of mine. It's just a 1-inch crack along the top surface of the dash. It's actually difficult to see because it's a "tight" crack. Just search the forum and you'll see plenty of pics from guys who have cracked dashes.

I used 303 on mine, it still cracked. I take good care of my truck, my GF took it in to get detailed and the shop was like "what are we supposed to do with the interior? It's perfect."

Mine has cracked from the driver's side A-pillar to just past the radio -and- from the pass side air vent to about 4". The crack isn't on the top of the dash, it's on the lip on the driver's side and the face on the pax side.

I was quoted over a grand, about $400 less @ dealer cost.

It's pretty annoying.

My wife has one in her 4runner, an 04. I have kept that dash clean as with the whole car. I was puzzled with this crack, as to why. not a lot of UV exposure as we keep a window shade on it during the summer. I did not relized others had this issue

Yes, it seems to be very common, especially on older 4th gens. I suspect all of our dashes will crack eventually. I was surprised with mine because my 4Runner is garage kept and when I park at work it's in the shade most of the time. But I still got a nice little crack anyway. Oh well, what can you do?
