Another dashboard question

2003 4runner

Missed the dashboard recall. And will just have to pay to replace mine.

Mine does not have the separate air bag door. Can I replace with one that does have it. Would it be a good idea?
Easier to replace if air bag ever deployed. Guessing mine just breaks open the dash board.

Also the paint looks like it is coming off the vent for windshield defroster. The long vent by windshield that the air blows out of.

Does this come with the dashboard or is it a separate piece I have to buy.

i heard its a pricey replacement (thousands perhaps...) but good luck.
my 2004 has no cracks...if they ever start appearing ill be running a carpet dash cover haha
 
Make sure if you pay for this to be done that the updated version is installed. To answer your question, you should probably stick with the same style as what came in it originally.
Cost should be under $2k.
 
I've heard replacing the dash is in the $1600 range. Why are people replacing cracked dashes on 15 year old vehicles? Haha I'm kind of joking, but also a little serious.

I would rather put my money towards keeping this thing on the road for another ten years versus fixing a few cracks in the dash. Or spend a couple hundred and just get an overlay. There's a thread on here about it and the end result looked decent.

My case maybe different. 2003 with 74K highway miles, garage kept. Mine looks the same as a 1 year old car. From the exterior, interior, undercarriage and under the hood. Only thing that will not is going to be the dash.
Just used for when we took a trip, most of the time.

Beside timing belt, oil changes and tires. I have not put much into it. And expect it to go another 10+ years.

I have to keep a eye on my 2011 LS460. The dash in those gets sticky and sort of melts. Program to replace is good thru 2021. But I have not had a problem myself. But again garage kept.

Seems Toyota is getting bad interior materials.

Yeah I could see replacing it if the vehicle was in great condition like that. You might have one of the nicest 2003's left in the world.
 
i work for toyota and i need to replace my dash and its going to run you about 640 bucks for just the dash. its not that bad but it is

Can you post a pic of your cover? I’d be interested in seeing how it looks, and it may be of interest to others looking for alternatives as well. My dash cover WAS flawless until my daughter lost control of our dog while we were going to the kennel and he put some nice claw marks in the dash cover. I get super pissed every time I see those marks, especially considering how expensive it is to replace those dashes!:censored:
