dang man your making me wish i would have used more sylicone on the back clamp haha! i got a little on the ring so it wouldn't loosen but it looks like yours are going nowhere!

Trust me I regret siliconing them in place when I spent and hour+ removing it to get projectors out to adjust as well as install them into stock Toyota housing. Also thanks for the help.

I am about to do a retrofit with the same projectors and I DO NOT want to risk the projectors working themselves loose once I clamp down the lock rings. I was even thinking of aiming them, locking them in place, then drilling a couple bolts through the housing to lock them down. I am scared they will work loose once the 4Runner is used offroad and rattles around a lot!

Even when the threaded locking ring is tight, I can move projector a little bit in each direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) in between where the alignment ring has a little play. I used a flat head screw driver to move it. When I flip the ring over the projector is too far left and when I leave it the way it was initially on the reverse side, it leaned too far right. The top thick notch on mine wasn't cut to the highest precision and could be better for sure.

I did not put silicone in the second time. I did wedge a toothpick in there so the projector does not rotate back where where it was though. If it comes loose, I will address it again but mine aren't perfect yet for me to lock yet. Might have to grind the big notch on driver side to get them perfect since there's no more play without doing so. I need about 1 more degree to get cutoffs to line up.

Great job man! Indeed looks much better with the all chrome housing. The black bowl was a good idea though.

This is the same retrofit I am looking to do. So I have saved this for future reference.

:redbrick: Silicone was a terrible idea in my case because I used it before I got the projector level. I had to pick all the silicone out of the cracks to get the threaded locking ring off. Had I known that the projector was going to not be level, I would have waited until after to add the silicone which I haven't done again. Sigh...

Your truck and retro look great. I too installed the morimoto d2s. I wasn't happy with the performance until I upgraded to a 50w ballast...now the output is great.

The D2S is a HUGE improvement over stock - although maybe not as 'crisp' as other projectors they are certainly working for me...

I agree - the Morimoto D2S can hold their own very well against other bi-xenon projectors (i.e. FX-R, TL-ZKW). I also have an '05 TL with ZKW replica lens setup mated to Phillips 85122+ and honestly don't see much of a difference as far as performance goes. I'll admit that the TL has a wider output in both low beam and high beam mode, but for the convenience of installation the Morimotos D2S are more than adequate and I have never felt like I needed more light. The Morimotos also have foreground lighting unlike the TL projectors which is a must in our much taller 4Runners.

Other HID setups I've experienced and used include Morimoto H1 (currently mounted in foglights of IS350 in addition to factory D4S AFS/STI-R Clear Lens) and my sold Mazda3 Hatch with OEM D2S/Clear Lens. Compared to these lowbeam setups, the Morimotos are much wider than the IS D4S and are comparable to the Mazda3 D2S/Clear lens setup as far as width and intensity.

Although I am interested to see how the Morimoto 50w D2S setup holds up over time with the added heat.

The all chrome set look aswome, the ones with the black housing look creepy.

I think You painted the wrong part, the area you taped up should of gotten painted black . And the area you painted should of stayed chrome.
But it looks great. nice work.

I'll resurrect this thread because I wanted to say thanks for posting it! I did the same retrofit about six weeks ago and relied a lot on this thread. I apparently got a bad wiring harness at first - it was shorting out on me. But I got the new one installed last night and it seems to have fixed things up

These trucks are not CANBUS, you just need the H4 harness. You don't need the shroud rings either, they fit on the projector without them.
