Yeah, I agree with the Prius comments. I don't expect Prius mileage and in-fact, own one.

Automatic shutoff is there for a reason and it's not just to prevent spills. :doh:

When you get an idiot light because the evap system isn't functioning properly because you've nuked the charcoal canister, you'll know why. Never top off.

I filled up in BFE wyoming this past weekend. Damned pump didn't auto shut off. Poured about a gallon of gas all down the side and all over the ground. Good thing I was just standing there waiting for it. Can't get much fuller than that. Hope it doesn't cause an issues. So far no problems.
 
I will say that I've been unimpressed by the mpg with 285s. I did specifically buy a 4runner over a GX460 because of mpg and weight. Drove them back to back a few times. If there was a GX460 with part time transfer case and a lay flat cargo area - I'd be all about buying one. My guess is that the 4.6L v8 would get better MPG in the 4runner in most cases than the v6.

I'm curious to see the Lexus twin turbo GR I keep hearing about. I'd imagine that'll come to the 4runner/tacoma at some point. Probably the gx460 replacement first.
 
11 something is LOW! Here in VA/DC traffic with a mix of stop-n-go and highway, I average 17-18 easy and fill up once a week. No complaints here.

I sure wouldn't be too happy if I was getting 11.5 mpg

Question: Is your mileage hand calculated or is it the readout from the computer? My understanding is that the computer will drop your MPGs significantly because of constant idling, so it might not be accurate.
 
Im getting around 14.8 average Mpg or 15.6 l/100km

No mods, tried at 40psi, and 35psi didn't make much of a difference.

About 50/50 city/highway with some weekends on forest service roads.

You guys shouldn't complain with the prices of gas down there... right now I am paying around $1.21 cdn a liters which is about $3.68 usd a gallon
 
After my lift and tires, my pressure was 35 PSI for a month. Did my normal driving and my cars MPG read 15.2

Went to 44 PSI and now 1 month later car is saying I'm getting 17.5 MPG. If your counting change to fill up, PSI is crucial. Its stiffer, but not uncomfortable
 
Was going to spend $60k on a vehicle, complains about the $5 more per fill up after saving over $20k on different vehicle....

If you're getting 20+ on the highway I would say your problem is traffic not the 4Runner. My absolute worst tank is a hair under 14mpg in winter where temps hit -40 over a couple day period and I had many idles and very cold starts.
 
My mileage is a good 4-5mpg better than that and I only take it on the highway once a week. We've got similar mods (according to your sig - I'm not sure if you have any aftermarket bumpers or a roof rack), so I'm not sure what the issue is - and I drive like an *******.
 
So you guys just wanted another "what's your mpg thread?" Really?

OP and anyone else who like me enjoys efficiency, no matter what the baseline is, take note:
If you want to be efficient the absolutely worst and silliest thing you can do is lift, bigger tires, roof rack and add bumpers and skids. You can't beat the basic laws of physics guys. Add unsprung weight? Pay a penalty every time you accelerate which is a lot in the city. On the highway those tires don't hurt as much as the lift and added mass.

Keep it stock and be efficient or mod it up and be quiet. Your choice.

BTW I will merge this in with one of the dozen or so other threads like this when I get a chance.

Same experience here.
 
At least fuel is cheap right now. My 2012 is my daily driver and averages about 16 in town and 20 highway. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than filling up the 47 gallon tank in my other 4x4 that only gets 9mpg.

Nobody who spends $35k+ on a vehicle gives a shit about gas mileage. This is stupid. Gas is cheap as hell. Now if you are getting like 10mpg then I would be concerned only because that means something might be wrong with your rig. Other than that it is negligible.

you would cry if you saw mine ... 13.5mpg on the freeway to Carson and 11mpg on the side streets. And I'm in Riverside but I'm more towards La Sierra area.

I call bullshit ... I've been topping off since back in late 90's. And Ive never had a evap light come on.

how you explain going 40miles pass the light and filling up and topping off to get 20 gallons in my 22gallon tank in 4runner or 21gallons in my wifes 23 gallon tanked Sienna or 11.5 gallons topped off on my 2013 Scion FRS 13gallon tank.

From my experience what you have stated isnt true.
 
not sure yet on these T4R vehicles but with all the GM vehicles I have owned when the light comes on there is about 3-5 gallons in the fuel tank.

so far with this 2016 I just bought the fuel gauge is very accurate . @1/2 I can put 11.5 gallons in it also appears 5 gallons per 1/4 . so my guess is when on E there is 3 gallons left in the tank .

I do not recommend operating on E . can be damaging to fuel system.
also never fill up the tank all the way in cold weather then drive a short distance and park in a heated garage not good.

so far I am getting in the 18 MPG range . the tires @38PSI .. all stock no mods. I have tried 93 octane no difference in MPG. however did notice slightly better grade climbs less dropping out of 5 th gear.

I have noticed that this toyota has a huge amount of air restrictions in the air box looks like totota made this for a desert type environment .

with all that material in the air box and several K miles on the vehicle that could be why the MPG for some maybe lacking ...
