I know this has been discussed previously and I have searched and read and I still feel like I don't have enough information to go on. So, I thought I would take a shot at asking the experts here what their thoughts are on the subject.
I just got my new 2012 Trail Edition about a month ago and I am ready to start my first round of mods. I will be doing 80-90% on road driving here in sunny Florida, which also means lots of rain as well. My first mods are going to be a lift kit, wheels and tires. I am convinced the Toytec 3" ultimate lift kit with LR UCAs is the way for me to start. I can't decide on tires though.
It has come down to either Nitto Grappler or Toyo Open Country for the tires. So my questions are: If I go with the Nitto what is the best balance of long tread life, not too loud on the road and aggressive look, the Terra, Trail or Mud? IF I go with the Toyo, same thing but the AT or the MT? As far as size, with my lift, I assume 285/70/17 or 285/75/17 will be appropriate.
Also any suggestions on rims would be appreciated as well. Right now I am leaning toward the American Racing ATX series black Crawl in 17x8 with a 4.5" back-spacing and 0 offset. This is a look that I like, and it seems close enough to the OEM wheels in terms of backspacing and offset relative to wheel size that it should work well. I also like the Fuel Boost in black as well. They are a little more expensive and only come in 17x9 with 4.5" back-spacing and a -12 offset so I wasn't too sure about the fit.
Sorry for all the noobie questions but I have never outfitted a truck like this and want to try and do it right the first time (budget not withstanding).
