Any oil would do, the thinner the better. That way you will get good flow and saturation. Will not stop it but will slow it down.

The only way you could stop it, is get it down to the metal and por 15 treatment. Which it is impossible due to being inside the frame.

All this spray stuff may work if you had caught it as surface rust or new metal. There is now way covering the top of flake/rot will stop/slow anything. It is rotting from underneath just as much on top.

May look great when you finish but the damage is still going full steam underneath.

I'm confused, so what is better than coating it? Nothing?

Mine was super dry when I did the whole thing, no rain for weeks. I understand this entire "rust removal" is often an exercise in futility but it has to improve the longevity a bit.

Here is a video to look at. notice it was done when new. 1 rock thrown can cause a tiny bare spot and rust will take over from there. It was the most expensive mistake I have ever made.
