Another trade-in question

I didn't want to hijack the guy's thread about trading in his older 4Runner for a new Limited, but my question for the masses is somewhat related...

When I bought my 2011 Limited last year, it was my first foray into 4Runners. I actually prefer the look of the older 4Runners. I guess I also came late to the party, having been a Tundra owner since 2002.

But anyway, I've been tossing around the idea of trading in my 5th Gen for an older one, for a few reasons:

1) I really miss having a V8
2) I like the older style
3) mine is a Limited because I got a killer deal, but I am not a "Limited guy" and don't use half the things that it came with. I also don't like not having an actual key for ignition (call me weird) and all that Limited chrome has got to go, anyway.

Anyone thought of doing this? Maybe even done it? Or WOULD you?

I test-drove a 2003 V8 last week and loved the ride, handling, and acceleration, but she had 105K on her, which I'm not too sure about, plus she was a tad bit too worn for what the dealer wanted, IMO. However, they also have a 2008 with 88K that seems a bit fairer as far as price vs. condition.

Anyway, does this seem totally irrational to anyone? Any of you former V8 4Runner guys miss the old ride?

I personally don't think that's irrational. I'm about to do the same thing, except I'm trading mine in for the same thing. Sound odd?? I know. I have an 07 white SR5 and I want between an 05-09 Mica or Black Sport with less miles. Mine is just shy of 100K.

I'm not as adamant about the less miles because I'm confident about the product but I do want a different color and trim package.

I love the 4runner and I plan to spend a lot of time in it so why not get what you want, if you can?

You can't go wrong with any 4Runner. I personally like the styling of the 4th gen better and will not part with my V8. It all depends on personal preference, but you can't beat the V8. Don't worry about 105k, she is still very young! The 4.7L is one of the most reliable engines Toyota has ever built.

Thanks folks. I'm actually looking at a different one right now - a 2008 Limited with 88K, V8 (don't know if it has the X-REAS or not yet).

Crappy thing is I'm in Wisconsin this week, so hopefully it'll be there when I get back.

Oh well...if she goes, I'll find another.

If you aren't happy you will compare everything, and live in regret. I can't stop myself from searching for a 08 Shadow Mica V8 4x4. You need to re-evaluate what makes you happy, like a paid off 4runner, or lower payments, or pull the trigger on the vehicle that you want.

So I went to drive the 2008 today and ended up not buying it.

The main reason was that the cabin seemed wayyyyyyyy too cramped, even more so than the 03 that I test drove earlier. I kept smacking my head on the edge of the headliner, where the sunroof is. Highly annoying.

Otherwise it was just OK as far as ride and handling. It didn't exactly blow me away like I thought it would after driving the 2003. Are there some major differences between the 2003 and 2008 V8's that I don't know about?

I'm sure there are plenty more out there, so I'll keep looking. Or....I'll just start modifying my 2011 until it's exactly what I want.
