Taco Antenna swap-recent review
Hey folks.
Just got register on the site but have been using it for the past 2 years fixing up my Runner. I did the power mast replacement 2 years ago when i bought it and it lasted about the whole 2 yrs until it decided to spit out the mast one morning while starting it up at the grocery. I finally decided to do the non-power swap.
I got prices from 2 Dealerships here in Denver. Stevinson East quoted about $165 for the 2 parts needed(not in stock). Arapahoe Autonation quoted me about $150ish over the phone. I then went on the net and found both parts for about $75-85 w/o shipping. I went back to Arapahoe parts and the man did try to match and ended up pretty close. Final cost: $86.47
Parts:#86309-0C020 Antenna Pole assembly(32" mast with wire wrapped and covered in black. Flexible but not like a real WHIP mast.
Dealer List Price: $55.03 my price: $30.00
Part: #86300-35090 Antenna Assembly(non-powered)incl:decorative cover collar and locking ring nut.
Dealer List Price: $99.58 my Price: $51.00
I thinks I did all right. still pricey. Could have searched the yards.
*Parts man explained that the unit USED to come with the mast included but not anymore. I noticed that the box the Unit came in was big enough for the mast too but they each had own bag/box and parts labels......
So I went home and took apart my console and glove box and got to it., I did have some issues in getting back to the cable routed behind the airbag, etc. I attached twine to the ant plug and tried to pull the cord out through the fender hole. I got about have way and it got stuck and then cut. I was able to pull the remainder out back from the console. I routed the new cable from outside the fender back through the glove box area behind the heat duck. I was able to just plug the new antenna into the Y splitter I had installed when I had upgraded the stereo HU. The Ant. untied bolted right to the power units mount. I pulled the wires from the power motor from the clip itself and left the connector still mounted to the fender. I hope this is a safe way to shut off the power wire. Please LET ME KNOW if I need to do something else.
All seems to work fine now. the antenna looks great. I won't have to worry about the unit icing up and jamming. or draining my new battery.
here are some pics of the 2 parts I got from TOYOTA.
