Antifreeze Temps

1989 Toyota Pickup 4WD , 4 cyl

Coolant Temperatures after Significant Warm Up Time and then City Driving of 25 minutes :::

Radiator Hose Intake Upper 150 deg F
Radiator Hose Out Lower 123 deg F
Heater Core Hoses 171 deg F

Do these readings with Infared Thermometer appear reasonable ?

Nope, not really. With a glass thermometer inside the neck while warming up, the temps should be low until the thermostat pops open. At that point, you should see somewhere around 185º~205º, depending on what temp your thermostat opens at.

I don't think you'll get a good reading from the outside of the hoses, as they are insulating some of the temperature of the antifreeze. Are you having an overheating issue? The only thing your IR thermometer is proving is that the radiator is reducing the temps of the coolant like its supposed to, and you have sufficient heated coolant entering the heater core.

I started this Thread because I thought the readings with Infared Thermometer
on Hoses was rather Low.
No Overheating Issues.
I will look into what Open Temp Rating Thermostat is, in the vehicle vs the Specifications.
