How do you know that your skid control module is bad? What have you done to diag this?

Well speedo is inop at all times and vsc, abs, cel etc are all on and code p500 which is vehicle speed sensor so I had a known good spare to swap it with to no avl then next I put it on the modis scan tool to check to see if there was any wheel speed being registered which there was not so the only thing that alldata is really saying is replace skid control unit:( however as I understand it there is also a speed sensor on the cluster that could be bad and that would cause the speedo to not work thus causing the fault codes.

Is this a common issue with these? 01-02 are the only ones with this type of skid control system from my searching and talking to my Toyota tech friend.

Have you checked the FSM for the p0500? It points to the possibility of Park/Neutral switch or ECU. Also dopes say the combination gauge though. Says NOTHING about the "skid control" however. The reason that the other lights are on is due to no speed being reported to the ABS ECU so it recognizes a fault. Heres the FSM pages, it might help.
