Mostly yankees on here.
My origin is the tip of the Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec -- Atlantic storms and all, so I know all about cold and snow. Back home, snowmobiles is the norm in winter so I'm keenly interested if your in the same boat up north during this time of year.
How does your 4Runner hold up in -100 degrees? ;-)

Had a long cold spell of about -50c last week, it lasted about 5 days or so. Everything held up great except for an axle boot which shattered due to the cold. Rubber components don't like it too much
Amazing how many vehicles are dead on the road when the temperature drops that far. Nothing like grinning as you drive by in a toasty warm runner

snowmobile question ...
I was just explaining how we would mostly commute using snowmobiles because the plows couldn't move about for days on end after a N. Atlantic storm blew threw.
It's funny, here in Vancouver, when 1" of snow is on the ground, the whole darn city goes into a state of shock. Schools will shut down and collisions are on every corner (summer tires all over). I watch as people leave their trannys in Drive and keep the front wheel locks with the brake ... just doing doughnuts down Main street and not having a clue why they can't stop! ;-)
Back in the 60/70's going to school on a bus ... it would take a good dump of about 3 feet before the bus driver would give up and call the day off! The heck with the plows -- our bus driver made the trails for them! ;-) if you don't have a snowmobile to make it through some of those nasty storms, you're pretty much a hermit for the duration.
I figured the Yukon must have similar times when only snowmobiles are used as even a solid 4Runner wouldn't get around for a while.

In most parts of the territory they do use snowmobiles when needed, but not here in Whitehorse. We don't have a problem with snow dumps really, as they are awesome at clearing snow quickly here.
I know about Vancouver, I used to live all over the lower mainland and experienced the same thing, it's hilarious. When you're not driving with those retards anyways. People come up here and can't believe how we drive when the roads are like skating rinks.
Little scary when at work though. I drive a 5 ton Mack truck around town all day, had it go into a slide last week with cars on either side. If it went a little more sideways there would have been one hell of a mess

My previous vehicle was a 2001 Pathfinder, with limited protection for the underbody, so avoided any exciting opportunities. My 95 Nissan was body on frame, and handled many difficult grades. I am looking forward to a few trails around here once the snow disappears. You might want to check with some of the local shops that specialize in 4 x 4's but with all the Crown land, I expect some opportunities await.
