Any dislikes with your 5th gen?

I am only a month or two away from purchasing my brand new 4Runner and I think this is the best place to ask owners if there is anything you guys DON'T like about your rigs.

Obvisouly, not enough to get rid of it I'm assuming ;-)

Looking to buy an SR5 that I'll mod to my liking eventually and I'm curious!

Lack of a temperature set for climate control. Knobs look cool but I expected more from a $40k vehicle. That is the only regular annoyance I have with mine. For reference, 4th gen had temp set.

limited has this. for me its rattles and sensitivity to tire/wheel imbalance. giant PITA
 
seats aren't very comfortable if you're tall and steering wheel doesn't telescope enough, arm rest is in the wrong location and too narrow to actually use as an arm rest so you have to rest your arm on the top by the window which isn't very comfortable, no creature comfort items that are standard now on other vehicles in the price range, poor fuel economy, i wish it came with manual hubs but i know that's true for every 4wd, headlights are too high, theres a spot on the passenger side of the windshield that will collect ice/slush in bad weather that even new wipers struggle with and seems to be related to windshield shape, AC and heat are good but the blower is weak, finish on interior plastic scratches really easily, color of top dashboard is not molded through so scratches appear white instead of uniform color, a few spots on tailgate where factory installed trim rubs through paint, fabric headliner instead of some kind of plastic/vinyl that would better resist scuffs and stains, center console just one giant cubby instead of the normal small area under the cushion with big cubby underneath, door lock actuators fail, factory roof rack cross bars utterly useless even for basic simple task... i'll probably think of more

but it's the only body on frame, solid rear axle, mid-size SUV on the market that is reliable and has off-road capability
 
Honestly, auto headlights. Why does a base model corolla get it, but not ours.

Other creature comforts that are available in higher trims incl: sunroof and heated seats. I didn't think I "needed" them when I bought the thing.
 
No unused front, banging in the wind, passenger seat belt clip. I would like to be able to turn on an actual dome light (front/rear), with one dial/switch. Not just individual map lights and have to reach back to turn on that one too (above rear passengers). Also, the rear headrests don’t lock in the down position and UP themselves, with all the windows down. If the radio is already on, at startup, my Apple Music player just starts playing.

2019 TRD Pro and my first 4Runner.
Coming from a newly bought 2012 CM RW Tundra (first Toyota).

I really have no complaints. But then, I've never had a vehicle this nice with this many creature comforts. Others are apparently used to the latest stuff, and notice omissions/shortcomings that don't even occur to me. My 2019 TRDOR is my first new vehicle in 31 years.
 
Its not a Land Cruiser... thats my only complaint. You get what you pay for and I could get 4 2010 Trail editions for the price of a new LC.
 
Very happy with my 4Runner, no problems in 6 years and 61K.

Have to get a Limited to get auto headlights, IMO, that should be available on all models.

A/C does not have enough capacity, I added heat shielding ceramic tint to windshield, moon roof and side windows to help. Compressor pressures for high and low side are within specs and the condenser is clean.

Going to add tint treatment on our new Sienna tomorrow, IMO toyota A/C does not have enough capacity. It is better than the 4runner.

I'm really missing the "good old days" of my 2001 Nissan Xterra which had AC and cruise control and that was pretty much it.

My current Corolla is coming to an end and the family is growing, so considering my girlfriend drives a Prius Prime with tech package, i.e. that huge iPad like screen that you can't see s**t in a lot of sunlight orientations, I can't wait to get back to basics!

Here's a nitpick: On my TRDOR the "double click" to unlock the rest of the doors (one click to unlock the drivers door only) on the key fob is sensitive to timing.

The first click should unlock the drivers door, or all of them (why not?).
The second click should unlock the rest REGARDLESS OF TIMING. This is how my Xterra was.
I frustratingly often find myself trying to open a locked passenger door or rear hatch, usually in a driving rainstorm, trying to double click "correctly".

Click.click. Nope
Click......click. Nope.
Clickclickclickclickclick. Nope
Click...click. There we go!
 
I don't like where the ignition switch is located, as others have noted the passenger seat belt bangs around with the windows open, the rain that gets on the seats when you open the door in the rain and no automatic light feature. This is inexcusable in any new car. I know this is a pretty basic vehicle but c'mon! I also would like throttle response to be better, you really have to nail it to get it to get up and go. Should be better from the factory without having to spend over $200 for an after marked gizmo like a Sprint Booster.
These are not huge things and otherwise I really like it and have no regrets buying it.
 
How hard is your life that not having automatic headlights is a valid complaint. A lot of the complaints I've seen are reasons why I love my truck. Only thing I can't comment on is comfort for tall people. I'm short so things are just fine for me.

I agree it's mad annoying. You need a little ditty to play in your head while you do it. In my head I literally say beep pause beep and now I don't have problems... but your right it's absolutely the dumbest ****ing thing on this truck.



My gripes:

Stock headlights are ****ing trash. Base corolla side by side will make it seem like you taped a mag light to your hood.

Electric throttle pedal leaves much to be desired even with a sprint booster or pedal commander (Get one BTW it helps a ton)

TRD OR Valances are not molded into the bumper and rip off with moderate trail use. (Lost my rear going through some mud) I will not be replacing them and will just live with the shit look until I get steel or SR5 plastics.

Stock suspension was lazily engineered IMO. On the non pros the front is like an inch too low which makes it looks ****ing stupid, my front skid plate is just low enough to get ****ing worked on the trails, and just "why?". Brake dive of a 70's cadillac (which decreases stopping distances and increases the chance of a lock up under sudden/emergency braking.

Steering wheel doesn't telescope out enough (of its class to include full sized pickups it's actually the best option). Plenty of cars make it happen, why is it that every vehicle that a tall person might buy it's not an option?

Head unit is good enough but for 40K I would expect a lot better. I drove a tesla twice and now everything that's not like that I poo poo because honestly it should be the standard now. But our head unit is better then the one in a lamborghini huracan so there's that... I guess.

That's all my real gripes. I have some petty stuff like I don't like how quiet the exhaust and intake are and would like more driver feedback (pedal feel and noise). But those are not really things I would expect out of a bone stock vehicle of this kind.

That might be a dealer-adjustable setting. Not sure.
 
most of my dislikes are so much overwhelmed by my likes so its not worth mentioning..

gear hunting while going over passes.. terrible fuel mileage... those would be my two but honestly its not that big of a deal.
