Yep. Agreed. Tire balancing and front passenger seat rattles. And the AC is kinda weak.

Have to say I'm surprised to see folks mentioning a weak A/C on their 4Runner. I've had quite a few vehicles each from VW & Audi (the worst!), and Chevrolet. My wife has had a couple Hondas and a Subaru since I've known her - and none of them have had an A/C as strong as the one in my 4R.

I don't like where the ignition switch is located, as others have noted the passenger seat belt bangs around with the windows open, the rain that gets on the seats when you open the door in the rain and no automatic light feature. This is inexcusable in any new car. I know this is a pretty basic vehicle but c'mon! I also would like throttle response to be better, you really have to nail it to get it to get up and go. Should be better from the factory without having to spend over $200 for an after marked gizmo like a Sprint Booster.
These are not huge things and otherwise I really like it and have no regrets buying it.

The main reason why I opted for a basic MT FJ Cruiser and now an Sr5 4runner was for the lack of features and S**t that can break or throw a code.

That the 4runner could be better and have more features.... sure. Every car will have stuff that can or could be better. I bought proven reliability.

that said, I can align with the comment about buying a sprint booster or pedal commander. I did to try it out and love my PD.

For the rest of the stuff: (randonly and not picking on anyone)

weak projectors: get a set of HIDs 6000K -- you will love the light output
Auto headlights: don't be lazy
remote control: I have yet to have an issue opening my doors
auto closing lift gate: another S***T that can break... $$$$.. no thank you
blind spot: would be nice but have yet to have an issue... even when I had the FJ "worst visibility ever" some people claim. People need to learn how to properly adjust mirrors... you are not supposed to see you own vehicle

So far my only complaints are the halogen headlights and the lack of a button starter. I feel like those should come standard when even a Corolla gets them (Same brand aggravates me the most).

NO COMPLAINTS... came from a 2014 Raptor to a 2018 4Runner TRD PRO couldn’t be happier... halogens headlights were upgraded day 1 easy and fairly cheap other then that 5 stars all day on these rigs... you won’t regret it it’s a solid solid rig.

So it sounds like a lot of issues are wanting a land cruiser for the price of a 4Runner.

If you get the Off Road Premium it has a lot of the options of the early 200 series Cruisers like KDSS and ATRAC. It’s pretty much a mini Land Cruiser for half the price and a nice alternative.

I have an 80 and 100 series LC in addition to the TRD Off Road Premium. Get the 4Runner for your daily driver. There are plenty of used LCs out there for relatively cheap. Keep in mind once you hit a 100 series they like premium fuel and can’t get anywhere near to MPG of a 4Runner.

won't happen if you install correctly. I live in S. FLA. Humidity and rain paradise... no condensation so far..

Lack of a temperature set for climate control. Knobs look cool but I expected more from a $40k vehicle. That is the only regular annoyance I have with mine. For reference, 4th gen had temp set.

What model do you have?

I must have gotten lucky with mine. If I stay in the 65-70mph range, I get 22 mpg on the highway and my AC is ice cold. I can’t even turn it up all the way or I freeze out the wife.

I don't own one yet but having test driven one, and been on many trails with friends who own one, I'd say my biggest issues are with the halogen lights, no automatic light modes, and push button start..Haven't driven it long enough to notice drawbacks with the 5 speed auto. The HID lights will be the first upgrade I do when I pick mine up in a couple of months.

Although I'm not happy with the stock infotainment system it is something that we would very rarely use (besides just a bluetooth connection to the phone or iPad). My wife has a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I don't even remember the last time I played around with U-Connect. We use our phone 99% of the time so it doesn't really matter much..I will however swap out the speakers in the front and the back to improve the sound quality as it is not something that is great even for this price point..

Dust and storage compartments

The storage up front sucks. I can't find anything in that massive bucket between driver and passenger seat.

Also, it accumulates dust on the back bumper, and actually INSIDE the back tailgate, that dribbles out for weeks after a good car wash. But appearance aside, the dust has disabled my rear hatch window twice, and requires that I open up the hatch lights and clean periodically or they fill with dirt.

Brake assist is scary, but maybe it saved me once, IDK.

And that fricken hood scoop.

This might be my biggest problem with the new model. My '06 had an option to enable one press - all doors. That is no longer an option apparently. It's a 'safety feature'.

I would bet you are right it is for "safety". I wonder what scenario the Toyota engineers, lawyers, and/or insurance people envisioned?
