Any Idea What This Part Is? Dash Replacement Related

Hey everyone,

Greetings from the 3rd Gen world. This weekend my mom had the dash replaced in her 2005 4Runner at the dealer as part of the recall. When she picked it up this piece was on the driver side floor mat. The service adviser said it is just a part from the old dash that isn't needed, but he didn't know what it was. Our local dealer isn't exactly known for the best customer service or telling the truth so we were wondering what this part actually is, and if it is needed.

To me it looks like it may be some sort of a vent or filter, but I'm not sure. Here's a couple pics my dad took of the piece. Maybe someone here can identify it and tell me what it is, and what it does?

its for the kick panels one goes behind the driver dead pedal and there is another one on the passenger side.

I actually lost mine this weekend... No kidding. The only part I couldn't find after installing my new head unit and running the wires for my reverse camera.

To be fair I sometimes have to go looking for those lil buggers when putting the kick panels back on; bet you it's the one under the foot rest on the driver's side. Easy to forget that one.
