Any luck with aftermarket cv axles?

my passenger side boot is torn. It doesnt make any noise or pops. I know some people might say just reboot with toyota kit but for the price I can just get a new or reman axle with warranty for almost same price. I dont offroad (i live in the city). Any positive or negative feedback is greatly appreciated.

Mines been ripped for a year now.....it's been off roading etc and I still don't have any problems with it. Once it starts to make noise I'll replace it.
 
I used rock auto axles for like 50 bucks each for new ones. I wheel a bit and had them for about a year with no issues.
 
I just replaced both of my CV axles with remanufactured ones from Napa, and they were only around $120 total. They are really good quality and I'd say go that direction.
 
Great. I was looking into Rock auto and napa also. Napa are around 70 for reman. 120 for new. Are there any difference between new and reman as far as quality
 
I will tell you that the 3rd gen aftermarket CV axles are made from junk steel that is poorly heat treated. The axle shafts have been known to break, sometimes inside the front diff. This broken piece can be a bear to get out and could damage the front diff. They are also known to bind at full droop.

I go with OE rebuilds or have your axles rebuilt or rebooted at a local axle/CV shop.

This was the general opinion based on what I read, so when mine ripped about a month ago I went with the factory not kit and rebooted the stock axles.
 
I have seen over a dozen CVs break on the trail (none were mine, knock on wood). The parts store ones fail more than OE. There are some prototype CV cages in the works but at this point the stock OE axles and CVs are the best.

Here is a picture of a broken end. There should be ~1.5" of splined shaft and a C clip. That stub was stuck inside the front diff.

There are EXCELLENT aftermarket companies of axles and CV joints. I have found some things sold at places like ADAP or PepBoys to be pretty much junk. But that doesn't mean they all are.

I would love to know where to buy these.
 
These are widely regarded as the best. Pricey as hell and complete overkill for anyone who doesn't regularly offroad. The only problem with going with a super strong axle setup like this is that now the axles are stronger than the front differential so all the heavy loads that would normally be dissipated by breaking a CV now go into the front diff and could potentially cause failure there. Like I said, overkill but awesome.

for street use, parts store stuff will be fine.
also, i havent noticed any difference between quality reman stuff, or new.
