I have a pair of high output NiteRider lights, one for the helmet and one for the bars. I like them alot.
So I have two Yakima Copperhead racks that I wanted to use for my bike but screwed up and realized they dont fit on the crossbarrs as the ones on my 2007 are to wide and flat. Any one have this issue or know of any clamps to by to fix this? I was really tryin gto avoid buying new racks.
Or if anyone is interested in buyin ghte two copperheads...they're brand new and have all part and manuals. on eis still in the box even.

Several years ago I was that guy. One of the trails I ride frequently has a narrow section (6") right above a wash that has a 20' drop to the right. The bottom of the drop was a wash that sloped out gradually.
My son was riding behind me. It is a high speed section and it was pouring the rain. I hit it, front wheel slipped and I was launched over the side. I landed on my butt 20' down in the loose dirt and mud on that sloped wash and rolled really fast the rest of the way down. As I was laying there contemplating the meaning of life and starting to do the inevitable "body part broken inventory" (everyone who wrecks does this - start with moving the toes and fingers, work up to the limbs etc) my son becomes those guys in the video. "DAD" he screams, "Are you alright???" "I'm calling 911!!!" I tell him "Shhhhhh, Be quiet for a minute!" I then sit up, stand up and slowly climb back up to the trail and my bike that of course had stayed on the trail. Nothing but bruises and cuts on that wreck.
But yeah, it's no fun being "that guy."

My "spectacular" crashes usually result in no injuries.
Clipped a tree, didn't wreck, results - Broken knuckle and several stitches. (tore the bike gloves to shreds)
Slid out in a hard pack turn, when down, not bad, results - 3 broken ribs and a broke clavicle.
Go over a 20' cliff and land on my butt? Walk away.
One of these days I figure the spectacular wrecks and the broke bone wrecks will intersect in the space/time continuum and that will be all she wrote and I will be riding on either gold streets or brimstone cave floors.
After hitting that tree and breaking the knuckle I do wear Fox Armor full fingered gloves now. They looked at me like I was crazy when wearing them down in Florida while riding this past summer.

Been mtb'ing for only about 2 months but I've been getting overly excited and probably too daring too soon. I own no protection other than a helmet. What minimal armor/protection do you suggest? Elbows, hands, and shins? Any good quality product lines to recommend?

I have him in my sights for next year, last year I gained that ranking on a Single Speed rigid. I could have held second but I couldn't afford to travel to Idaho for Nationals.

The best thing to do is learn how to wreck lol and learn how to fall and land. I wear full finger Fox armored gloves and good strong 5.10 shoes as I ride flat pedals. I have a full face helmet but mostly I just use a nice bike helmet. Alway always wear eye protection as a bug in the eye on a fast downhill is detrimental to your health. Knee pads and shin guards are a bit much unless you are doing pure downhill. Your legs and arms are going to get scratched up if you ride in brushy areas but that's no big deal. You really don't appreciate things until you have your first big wreck. Just remember, as you are flying over the bars, to relax and twist k n the air and roll when you hit.

Thats the difference in being in Boulder (5,500 feet at the base of the Rockies) and being 40 miles west in Winter Park (9,000 base with 12,060 feet peak).
You wouldn't think it being at the base of the mountains but Denver region winters are super mild (compared to back in Chicago anyway).
If you're going to run them tubeless I'd suggest using Orange Seal over Stan's sealant. From my experience it tends to have a lot longer useful life inside a tire the Stan's does. After 6 weeks or so Stan's turns to what looks like sea urchins floating in old milk and won't seal punctures. I've had Orange Seal seal when it was 5 months old.

Thanks for the info - I had a bottle of Stan's already, so I just used it.
From what I've read, the longevity of the Stan's has a lot to do with the climate you're in. I know folks in this area who've had the Stan's sealant for several months with no issues. Have read good stuff about Orange Seal, may give it a go the next time I have to purchase sealant.

That is a fair point. I used to use Stans back home (Chicago, high humidity) and found it wasn't very effective. I bought Orange Seal at the advice of a highly respected bike shop owner and frame builder (also in Chicago), but I didn't actually switch until the following spring when I had already relocated to Colorado.
