Well. After further review, I just picked up this Diamondback bike on sale from Jenson. I never put a bike together before so figured it would be fun and how can you beat it for $850 or so shipped? For the price, I'll make it fit. If not I can always flip it. Can't wait to get it. Looks like a nice component set.

I will be getting my new bike in Saturday. I was going to get a Cannondale Beast of the East 27.5+. It came in a month or so ago and after a test ride it just did not feel right.
They happened to have another bike they were assembling for another guy. This was a Trek Stache 7 29+. I sat on that bike and was sold! So mine will be in this weekend and I will assist in assembly. Looking forward to making the 3" tires tubeless lol.

I am. Long torso+old=comfortable bike size in a bit more upright riding position.
I rode it today in the mud, patchy snow abd cold and it did great. I need to cut the bars and make a few adjustments and I will be good to go. It felt like a tank through the rock gardens abd had great traction up the muddy hills and through the slick leaves. With that said I hate riding when it's cold enough to have ice across the mudholes.

Glad to hear that because I ordered the smaller size in my Cx bike as well and it's sight-unseen. Went with the medium 53mm as opposed to 55 mm since I'm 49 and 5'11" with my moms shorter legs.

I rode my Giant as well today with the perfect weather in NJ. Was about 40 dog and the trails were perfectly tacky without being muddy. Been working a lot and not exercising as I should so I was gassed a few times on the tougher uphills.

Yeah I wish it was like that down here. Freezing drizzle, fog and cold! I would not have rode except to try out the new bike. Rode four times last week tho lol. We really have not had to quit riding yet. Usually we have to stop regular rides in the first few weeks of November and only ride sporadically until mid March. I usually go down to NC on the weekends in the winter to ride but even though its been cold we haven't had the heavy snows or the monsoon rains yet this year.

What type of riding are you planning on doing, specifically? Obviously, a lot has changed in MTB equipment over the last 10 years, and you'd probably be surprised at what some of the hardtail stuff can handle nowadays.
Are you in an area where some demo rides are offered?
Not saying that you shouldn't get a full suspension, just recommending that you ride different rigs before deciding and match one up to your riding style.

I'm close to a bike park. Two Rivers in MO. I just remember fighting a hard tail when climbing hills. I do like the lock out rear shocks, that's nice.

Please don't take this wrong but if you haven't rode in 10 years are you sure you want to drop $6K on a bike? I ride almost daily around 10 miles of singletrack with lots of climbs and lots of rocks. With that said I just bought a 29+ Trek hard tail for my new daily rider.

The bike you linked is an excellent bike for big hit riding but for XC cross country or even rougher singletrack it is like using a sledgehammer on a finish nail.

Bikes have changed a lot in the past 10 years. First you have to ask yourself what type of riding are you planning on doing? Redbull Rampage? Rails to trails? I'm sure somewhere in between lol but just because a bike costs a lot does not make it the best tool for the job. The big challenge I find with that bike is it will be pretty twitchy for regular singletrack riding because of the slacker angle. The front wheel is tucked back under the bike a bit which will improve the handling on the big rocks but will make you work hard during normal rides. If you are going to be riding for fun and exercise I would look at a different bike. Bikes are like cars: A race car is great for racing, not so good for driving around town. Mountain bikes are the same.

If you are going to blast hard on downhills or ride big hit stuff then that is a good bike. If you are going to put in the miles on regular singletrack then I would keep looking. Let us know more specifically what type of riding you plan on doing, along with your fitness and skill level and we can probably save you some money and disappointment lol.

Got my Haanjo and put her together last night. Got it out for a 21 mile ride today. All is well. Solid bike with nice components all around. Unbelievable that it was $850 at Jenson. Love it so far.

I picked this up a few weeks ago. Basically a road bike frame with 650b wheels, 40c tires, and a 30mm travel lefty suspension fork. It is surprisingly quick on the road and is a treat on the gravel/dirt roads. Pretty awesome to hit light single track, gravel, dirt, water, road, and mud all on the same ride.
