Any reason not to go with OEM axles?

Its come time to replace my original front axles and was wondering if there is a reason to upgrade to something other than OEM or just stick with OEM.

always OEM with these trucks. unless you are buying way overbuilt axles for rock crawling or whatever, don't buy autozone/rockauto/local mechanic "OEM replacement" axles. especially if you plan on doing any wheeling. they just aren't strong enough.

source: me. i cheaped out and have broken two while out wheeling.

Not only are the aftermarket not as strong as grave said, they also do not offer the articulation that the OEM's afford. I know this first hand.

Also, do not believe any marketing term of OEM from a vendor other than through a Toyota original parts seller or someone that is rebuilding true originals.

Nope. Amazon has ‘em for 415. If you want ‘em cheaper, buy a rebuilt OEM axle or DIY.

Just installed a CVJ axle. Have you considered them?

Second this. If you run any sort of non-stock suspension (or even if you're stock), I'd suggest CVJ Axles.

I'd 3rd CVJ. I installed both of them on my 4runner with the upgraded Toyota boots and so far so good.

I have about 26k miles on them.

::Flame suit on::.. It'll be fine for pavement. A lot of the forum members are enthusiasts who use their rigs AND they are the commenting majority.

Like to have fun with your rig? Pay up or rebuild like they say. Commute around town? Auto parts store CV axles are just fine

i was checking these out the other day. what is the advantage of CVJ over OEM?

There are several Toyota dealers that have internet parts ordering and are at least 30% off.

E.g. Toyota Parts Online | Olathe Toyota Parts Center

Also Camelback and several others.

Should be able to get them for somewhere in the 250-300 range.

Not sure how to tell if they’re OEM, someone else can answer that, but you can get a Toyota reboot kit for ~$50-60 just about anywhere.

apparently i have oem but definitely need more than boots. i think ill take my chances and just hold onto my oems just in case

What makes you think you need bearings?? Is it making noise and having some sort of vibration?

I just ordered these cv boots off amazon and they seem really high quality.

those are OEM Toyota boots so you'll be good to go. did it come with the grease and clamps, et cetera?

yes and yes...i could see through the bad boot and all messed up, lots of slop
