Any regrets going with 265/70r17s on daily driver?

On a related note, many have recommended LT rated tires rather than P load rating. Have you found that the pluses outweigh the sacrifice in ride quality (if there is actually any ride quality loss)?

From what i understood, P is for Passenger cars, LT is for Light Trucks. you can run P if no towing, LT is rated for a heavier weight so towing is fine.
I have the P265/70/17 and they ride great. my buddy has LT285/75/16 on his landcruiser and they ride just as good as mine, just noisier since he has MTs and not ATs like i do.

That's the thing. I'm guessing the LT tires use a stiffer sidewalk to get the higher load rating, therefore possibly making the ride harsher. I've always had P series tires on my SUVs so I'm not sure if there's even much difference in ride quality.

I've had 265/70 17 Terra Grapplers on my truck for a little over a year. The only rubbing I had was at full lock when turning right. It took about 10 minutes to push the liner forward. Aside from that they have been great, not loud, no noticeable drop in MPG and they ride pretty nice for an AT. The only thing I have heard is that when moving up to that size it really depends on the brand because they are all different sizes and some are more squared off on the edge than others. The ones that are squared off like BFG's will rub the liner more than ones that have a more rounded edge. But like I said, it only takes about 10 minutes and a screwdriver to take care of that.

Been running 265/70s since the stock michs at 60k. Only thing I regret is my odometer is lower than is should be lol.

Another way to look at the dif between the 265/70 & the 255/75 would be handling, the 265 will handle turns a little better and have a closer if not toatally stock feel when breaking. My 255's def have a smooth ride but do not have the same cornering feel as my stock Michelins, not even close plus my breaking feels softer. The 265/70 would prob be my choice now that I've been running the 255 setup for a month now, I drive 300 miles a week at the minimum so I feel that has been enough seat time to share an opinion.
265/70 closer to stock ratio and speedo reading also, you will only notice being off when you hit 55 mph or higher anyway.

I'm assuming all of you guys talking about running 265/70's with no lift and no rubbing are running with factory wheels? I would assume that may not be the case with those running aftermarket wheels with less (or no) offset?

5100s and 265 Trails on FJ steelies, no sway bars. My mpg suffered for sure but I have the 4.0 A4 and heavy wheels and tires. I would think with the 4.7 it wouldn't affect you too much.

Thanks for all the helpful input guys. I think I may go ahead and run the BFG ATs in 265/70 17. I have a couple friends with land Rovers and they swear by them. They also said they didn't notice much difference in ride quality going from P to LTs. If I go with 5100s I'm told they will still clear at the 1.75 front lift setting (possible minor trimming).

Those same friends have nearly talked me out of the 5100s with stock coils idea and into a full Toytec/OME lift. I'm not against a little more lift but I'm not sure I need to go that aggressive for the little bit of offroad driving I do. I guess it's always good to know you can...

Since the topic of the thread is tires, I may start another thread on that. It's another one i don't see debated much by searching. I see a lot of full lift vs full lift debate, but not 5100 + stock coils vs full lift.

I have 5100 on high setting + stock Tacoma Trd springs and it's stiff but not unbearable. I think stock springs on 1.75 would ride great.

I see you're no longer running mud flaps in front. Did you have clearance issues with them, or just didn't like them? I'd like to keep them for various reasons.

I went to 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2's on my 2006 w/o lift and have had no problems. I also removed the mud flaps.

I run 255/75r17 which is close to the size of 265/70r17, just a little narrower and taller. My only regret is I didn't go bigger... I have a set of 285/70r17 Terra Grapplers that were given to me though just gotta find time to get them mounted.
