any special tools or sockets for head bolts?

just seeing if there are any special tools or sockets i'd need to take the head bolts off of my 3VZE 3.0 engine. are all the bolts 12 point or is there one bolt on each head that has 6 points? i've done a search on here and on google and have yielded nothing... and if i do need special tools if anyone has any tool numbers or types of tools or sockets and where i can get them, i'd really appreciate that. Thank you.

thanks fourwd1.lol. i was meaning for the head bolts. they're a star pattern and i can't seem to find any that work. are they special toyota only parts and need a toyota specific socket?

I'm about to tackle this myself. What size are the head bolts? Pretty sure you just need a 12 point socket in that size for all of them iirc

Its a 12mm 12 point socket.. i just finished my head gasket on my first 4runner.

From what I have found they should all be a 12 point but I had two 6 points one under the distributor and one on the passenger side near the firewall. The 6 points work fine as long as its the correct thread pitch and size.

Thanks for the info z3r034th, will be very helpful. one of my bolts are stripped so bad i have to drill it out... guess will not be reusing head bolts...

The head bolts are torque to yield you shouldn't reuse them. And don't lose the washers they dont come with most new head bolts. Careful drilling them out they are hardened steel bolts and can mess up your bits start small. Drilling the head bolts makes it a pain to get the head off
