Any V6 owners here wish that they'd gotten the V8?

I really like my V8 but I haven't driven a V6 so I can't compare. The V8 has great acceleration off the line and if I ever decide to upsize my tires an inch I will still have plenty of torque without regearing. I don't plan to tow and actually would have like the option of 2WD that comes with the V6 but I wanted the V8 more. The V8 only increased the cost by, what, 3-4 %. I don't experience an acceleration vibration at 55 mph.

Reading this thread reminds me of the way we seem to leave this subject every time it comes up -- figure out what you really need, what you can afford, and what you want, then buy accordingly. Both are fine engines.

yeah you can put the v6 into ft4wd, but then again kinda defeats the purpose of getting the v6.

true the new v6 is going into the new tacoma, but the engine has no history except for the year it came out, at least the v8 has some history behind it under the tundra/lexus vehicles.

yes it does have 30ft/lbs less than the v8, but the rpm at which they come into play and how flat the curve is different for the v8 and v6.

i wish i could have gotten a v6, but i settled for a v8 for the off chance i may need the v8.

i was perfectly happy with my previous v6 4runner's 183hp/217ftlbs and any current owner would be more than happy having a new v6 now. its nothing to be ashamed of having compared to the 3rd gen v6, trust me.

I think the V8 if I am not mistaken is quieter and smoother than the V6. Also, on the highway I notice that the V8 with little effort takes off and achieves speeds up 75-80 mph so quickly, it's amazing. I love my truck, it's my first SUV, and so far is the most stylish mid size truck in the market

My other vehicles are a V6 Passat and a Yamaha FZ-1 (about 155 HP, 550 pounds). I would say the V6 4Runner makes a fine showing accelerating onto the highway.

To be fair, the V6 is new, BUT the V8 has a brand-new transmission.

So, who has the advantage?? No one really.

I opted for the V6 since I wanted better gas milage for when I move to a different state. I understand there was only a few milage differance, but it is a cost that adds up quickly. Even though it is a few cents here and there, it adds up over the life of the vehicle. The gas milage was my biggest concern.

Isn't the V8 something like 130lbs heavier than the V6 (& all of it over the front axle)? And the listed torque difference is something around 40 lbs-ft.

So

282/4320 lbs = 0.0652
320/4450 lbs = 0.0719

Note: Toyota listed curb...

Which means the V8 has a 9.3% edge over the V6. Not enough of a difference to me.

How do you turn the traction control off

you cant on the v8's. you can turn off VSC by way of diff lock but not TRAC.

Think I'm leaning towards the V8, the one thing I thought of that was not mentioned here was resale value - I would imagine the V8 to hold it's value a little bit more so than the V6.

You can turn off TRAC on 2wd models.

in the original context which was relating to a v8, you cant turn off TRAC. you can only turn off TRAC if you get the v6

Maybe i am not understanding...but you can only turn off TRAC on 2wd models ONLY...applies to both V6 and V8 2wd models.

On 4wd models, you can ONLY turn off VSC...ATRAC (4-wheel traction control) is ALWAYS on.
