Any V6 owners here wish that they'd gotten the V8?

There is a TRD Supercharger option for the V6 too.

Is there really? they told me a couple of months ago they had no plans for building a V6 4.0 supercharger.

I assume if they make a supercharger for the 1.8 matrix they will eventually come out with one for the 4.0.

The new X-Runner will be coming out sometime in the summer and it's rumored to have a supercharger option. The X-Runner will be using the 4.0 Engine, so that supercharger shouldn't be too hard to retrofit to fit the 4Runner. So technically, there is no supercharger for th 4.0 engine but there will be soon :

I choose the v8 for three reasons:

The V6 wasn't out yet.
The V8 is faster than the V6.
The V8 has a 5spd tranny, a must as far as I'm concerned.

It may have 30lbs more tq and 10less hp, but it's the area under the curve. . .I need to get a dyno, but point is, when both are supercharged, the 4.7L is going to respond A LOT better with larger gains.

At least we have a supercharger (well, on hold right now). . .the 4L hasn't even been developed yet, yet ANOTHER reason if I were choosing now that I'd go with the V8.

MPG is moot, to get teh V6 to scoot, you'll be pushing the same mileage in the CITY.

hwy is diff all together. . .

I liked the V6 on my old 4Runner, I've had one since 1997. . .but every now and then, you have to step up to the BIG boys. . .

I test drove both engines. The 8 is quieter and a touch smoother on jumpstarts. BUT considering I live and work in the city, which means I live and work in traffic jams, the gas savings made the 6 a smarter choice. I always preferred the part time 4X4 anyway.

To be fair, the V6 is new, BUT the V8 has a brand-new transmission.

So, who has the advantage?? No one really.

I would guess, "no." If Toyota had wanted a 5-speed auto for the V6, then they would have done it already when the V6 was introduced.

I only want the V8 because of the 5 speed tranny. That extra gear seems to smooth the ride out a bit. Maybe that's what keeps the rpms so low? (Also, my sister has an 03 v8--I feel so much...COOLER when i drive it). But it's ok, I dont have anything to tow so the v8 would be overkill.

Actually, I've read elsewhere that the 5-speed will be optional on late-model-year 2004 and standard on 2005 models. Guess time will tell whether the rumors are true.

i would think the 4spd would better suit the v6 torque/hp band than the 5spd would. it would keep the rpm a bit higher to enhance the passing etc of the v6.

that would just depend on the gearing, wouldnt it? ie., a shorter 4th gear then a longer 5th gear for added flexibility.
