I have two 12" Type Rs now. I really want to get an 18" FI Q.

Two 15" Rs would be nice.

What type of box are you putting them in? Power?
 
im debating on a sealed or ported box, ive heard you need more power with a ported box. But ill be deff going with 1500 watts behind those two subs.

Do ported. You will be much happier with the output. I would give them a minimum of 2 feet each ported. 1500 RMS on the pair would be good. You could even give them close to 1,000 RMS each as long as you are careful.
 
well i just ordered the two type rs and a 1400 watt crunch amp. so ill be runnin around 700 rms a piece, which is almost what the speakers call for . im deff gonna go ported if the box will fit.

You need a power wire that goes from the battery to the amp. You need a ground that goes from the amp to a bolt or some other piece of metal. The shorter the better.

I have a remote wire and RCA's going from the HU to the amp. You also have to have speaker wire to go from the amp to the subs.

I hope that amp puts out it's rated RMS.
 
interior wiring

haha i know how to do the wiring part. im just new to the interior of a 4runner ive had the thing a whole day. How did you run your cable interior wise, my bad with the wording part.
 
I just kept the power wire on the driver side of the car and ran it under the floor board sill I guess you would call it. Under the plastic piece that covers the carpet near the door.

I ran the power and RCAs on the passenger side under the door sill also.

I have a 3rd Gen. What is yours?
 
ahh same thing 02 limited. The bezel around the radio just pops out right? sorry for the 100?s just i couldnt find much with search.

Pretty much. On mine I had to remove the plastic arm rest piece that leads up to the bezel. You also have to remove the piece around the shifter. Then you can pull the bezel off. At least that's how it was in my '98.
 
Man, everything was going good until the prefab box. That's the 2nd biggest mistake I made on my install. I order a prefab also. The problems with these is that they are normally tuned pretty high and are not built with great quality. It is normally possible to find a person close to you to build one for the same cost.
 
well maybe the box will pull through. ive got a buddy that can build one but hes in the marines. i may get him to hook me up when i get home. What was your first mistake on your install?
 
My first mistake was buying everything new. If I had to do it again I would buy some used stuff from caraudio.com.

I would probably get one 18" sub too instead of two 12". I only know that now because I've had these for a little while.
 
so what did it sounds like? i bet u cant compare them to my 2 jl audio 12w3v2 in the ho box (ported box from jl audio), i also hve a jl audio 500/1 powering it.

That's a joke right? I'm pretty sure mine would kill yours.

I'm not saying type Rs are bad, I'm saying that I want a bigger sub.

My friend has two 12w3vs and they aren't that loud.
