hahah i my buddy had 2 w3 tens and they sucked. Now w7 is a different world. My buddy had two w7 8s that would out hit 12s and possibly 15s

I don't really like your choice on amp or box.
Custom built and ported box is the way to go, sounds like you have your amp already so just run with it.

I'd take 2 12's over 1 18 any day.
I'd take type R's over w3's any day.
Anything JL (amps, subs, boxes) are overrated.

Nice man. Did the amp come in? It's too bad that the box is too tall for you to use your cargo cover. It really helps to hide the trunk area.

yeah its on the back of the box. ive got it hid for a stealth like looks that amps seems to be plenty i hooked it up outside my runner and its sounds hella nice. could i bridge that amp and run 1400 watts to those speakers safely? their rated 2000 watt peak and 750 rms?

As long as they are seeing a clean signal I think it would be ok to give them more than RMS. I would say they can take at least 1,000 RMS each if you are careful.

what are the disadvantages & advantages of both a ported & non-ported box?

I always thought a non-ported box had a tighter, deeper sound and was overall better.

A sealed box will probably produce tigher bass. They are good for rock.

A ported box will be louder and depedning on how it's tuned, will be deeper.

I would prefer a ported box over a sealed box.

i guess the ideal setup would be one box sealed and the other ported.

I always wanted to run a setup that included an 8", 10", & 12" sub just so I can hit every bass note. Maybe even a 15" as well, but at that rate you probably need a van.

Running an 8, 10, 12, and 15 would be the dumbest thing you could possibly do. Ever seen a sound quality competition car setup with that? No, and there is a reason. One sealed and one ported would be equally as dumb unless you plan on swapping between them depending on what type of music you plan on listening to at the time.

tarheel is right. Running different brands of subs, different sizes of subs, or subs in different boxes at the same time would be bad.

A bandpass box is auctually a sealed box that fires into a ported box. They can be tricky to make.

Also, a 12" sub can get just as low as an 15" sub.
