Anybody near Williamsburg VA for body mount chop?

Hey all,

Been researching the threads but I don't see too much to help clarify my plan. I was hoping someone could help.

I the guy that did my 5100 install put them at .85 and I have the 275/70-17KO2s on. But I want to go bigger. I really like the 34" KO2s, though I know they are really 33.5" or so. I also had the adjustable UCA installed with the shocks. The wheels are -12mm offset.

I spoke to Toytec and they said it would be about $650 for the parts to get a full 3" raise plus a 1" BL.

I am not opposed to getting a new front bumper if that will help fit these tires, but I do not have the means or skill to do a body mount chop.

Q: would the 3" lift plus 1" BL work without a BMC?

If not, does anyone have a person they recommend near Williamsburg VA?

I have read all the lift stickies and used the search bar but could not get an answer that took all of these things in together. Sorry if I missed it!

Any help is MUCH appreciated!!!

The stock bumper is easy enough to trim, you don't need an aftermarket one necessarily. At least not right away.

You will need to do a BMC to fit 34's. Depends on wheel offset and alignment numbers for how much, but I have 1/4" clearance with wore out 285/70/17 after I simply grinded the body mount smooth

Can you buy one of these from Harbor Freight for $25 and hold onto it while it cuts the end of your body mount?

Yes. But I thought that some welding was required to "do it right"?

ALSO, I called a local off-road place near me and asked about the same thing, and they told me that they could NOT fit 33" tires without TWO 4" lifts put together for an EIGHT inch lift!

In frustration, I asked if they could put 33s on a 5th gen 4R, and they said no!

Don't know what to do. I really just want something that sits up (but not at a ridiculous level) and that the tires really fill out the wheel well.

I guess welding a plate back on is debatable, I'm not convinced it gives it any measurable strength but that is up to you. You may not need to do a huge BMC if you get higher castor numbers and a 1" body lift.

Are you sure that isn't a "Jeep" shop? Sounds like they have no experience with Toyotas at all.

This is one of my favorite pictures of my truck. 285/70/17 with FJ springs in the rear (+1/4") and leveled in the front with Icon coilovers (+1.25" or so). Looks really mean and low. Suspension lifts don't give you tire clearance because your suspension still travels the same path as stock, it just has more droop. This means you will need to do the same trimming as anybody else with the same size tires. I didn't do major trimming to run this setup, hardly any. It rubbed a bit but it was still drivable on the street until I went with a 1.5" body lift.

For 33's (and any suspension lift amount) basically remove front mudflaps and trim a bit behind them, a small BMC might be necessary depending on alignment and rim offset, and push your front bumper fender liner forward and trim the bumper's corner and call it good. The rear fits without modification in my experience.

Thanks a bunch for this input. I really like the stance of your 4R and it is a great example of the look I would like mine to be similar to. Would you recommend that when I do everything that I go ahead and put on the FJ spring swap?

I didn't really feel a difference with the FJ springs, doesn't mean you won't but I only did it because my brother had a set laying around. Only gave me like 1/4" of lift.

If you can source them easily they might be an upgrade, otherwise, depending on how level your truck is without them, you may not necessarily need them.
