Anyone change from 2-tone to single/sport?

Hey all. Loosing a little interest in my 4R. I want trade for a V8 4th gen, but not many for sale and the prices are ridiculous. Figured I'd do a little work to the 3rd gen until something pops up. A wheel change up and a little cosmetic might make me happy. I never liked the 2-tone color Toyota used. Reminds me of an older Ford Explorer.

What is the best way to go about changing colors? Pulling the factory stuff off and painting myself? Or, trying to find oem/aftermarket that is already painted? There's a rubber gasket along the fender that would need to get changed as well.

I would drop the running boards completely, but I am not sure I would like that look as much?

Bumpers would need change as well.

Any thoughts? More work than it's worth?

No advice on dropping the two tone, but beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder... I think that thing is gorgeous.

Take a look at this thread, it might give you an idea of what your 4Runner will look like with painted flares:

You don't have to pull off the flares to paint them, you can leave them on there. In my opinion, I think the single color looks better than the two tone especially if you'll be putting on armor, but I know others will disagree.

Keep in mind that if you are planning on selling your rig, stock (never painted) will bring more money than painted, especially if it is obviously non-stock looking.

Maybe remove the running boards first, so see if that 'toughens' it up enough for you.

Also, no experience with this myself, but maybe plasti-dip would be a good way to test the 'color change' waters? A non-metallic true black is pretty easy to match, at least from a distance.

Man I think that thing is a beaut, but like tystaco said, it's all your opinion. I know you can have NAPA mix paint for you, but the best way is probably to have a shop do it and have them use OEM paint if you want true color match.

I vote leave it. That color way is one of my favorites.

I say keep it but I'm biased. Only thing I would change about my color setup is to have gone all black for my aftermarket bumpers. Or even keeping my factory bumper as opposed to the CBI; love the CBI but factory would have been much cleaner.
