[MENTION=27094]Danimal[/MENTION] actually I set aside all of the forum feedback and speculation. There are as many opinions for, as there are against kdss.
I called and spoke to 4 different service managers from different parts of the country and also spoke to 4 of their most knowledgeable technicians. I only got positive answers from 2 of the 8 people I spoke with based on my plans for a lift down the road. I figured if these guys are dealing with/working on kdss and tell me to forgo it, then I'll listen to them.
There is no right or wrong, just personal choice. That's why you can check the box or not!

Updates from the dealer
Do y'all get regular updates from the dealer as to major tasks being complete on the car -like a build week/ship date/arrival date etc. -not sure if these are updated on the dealer/Toyota system. To me this would be part of the adventure/excitement of ordering a new car built far far away in Japan ..

Please show me the stats. You can't because there aren't any. Here's a fact for you, a tidbit of trivia as it is:
This forum has the highest concentration of KDSS equipped vehicles anywhere. Out of all these posts since I became a member five years ago, there have been three (3) KDSS failures and one of them was the guy disconnected the wrong line. So in reality two failures.
Most dealerships do not even have the tools required to work on KDSS. Why? Because A) Most dealerships don't sell many TE's, LC's and 470's and B) There is rarely ever a problem so buying tooling is silly for most.
My service manager and tech don't like working on flux capacitors either and they have about as much experience with them as they do KDSS. Pretty sure I can put those guys you spoke with in the same category.
You can of course get what you want. I have had both KDSS and non KDSS and liked them both for different reasons. The sole reason I posted is your post will get read by a lot of people and they should have the benefit of some facts as well.
There are many lifted KDSS equipped vehicles running around and it's no big deal unless you are going to go LT.
People have opinions on KDSS just like they have opinions on color choice.
The facts are (many Toyota videos to prove it on youtube)
1. KDSS will improve on road handling around curves
2. KDSS will firm up the ride on road
3. KDSS (under 12 mph) will offer substantially more articulation off road than a non KDSS equipped 4Runner.
4. KDSS has NOT been a component that fails prematurely. If it were we would hear about it first ad nauseum.
5. Unless you want to spend north of $10K this is the only suspension, aftermarket or OEM, that improves bot on and off road performance. Everything else just does one or the other.

Just got an email .. Build starts on the 22nd of June, goes to port on the 26th and will be state side July 22nd . He estimates I can pick it up on mid August.

one dealer tells me if I order the Trail this month, there's a good chance it'll be a 2017 build. how likely is this - i thought 2017 builds would only start from October 2016? I have yet to see anything on the 2017 model yet..

Here is the sheet my dealer produced when I inquired about ordering a 2017. It looks official enough, but I'm no expert!
No idea why it is showing up twice.

It signed off April 2016, so unless there are spectacular changes, its likely to only lead to delays in production change based on the earthquake etc.
Do we know when the official 2017 changes will be released? No dealer I've talked to seems to have a clue.. Its rather odd as most speculate minimal changes as otherwise Toyota would be making a big deal about it?!

Today is June 8th. I was told that my truck will be delivered to their lot on June 18th. I just asked the dealer when they will get the VIN and when they expect it to leave Japan. Their response:
This math doesn't add up. If, in your case, it takes almost a month to ship from Japan then this guy is blowing smoke. Can any of you provide more info on what to expect? I feel like I'm being led on by a series of lies from this dealer.

If you've lost faith in your dealership, then there's nothing you can do.
I was told 6-8 weeks but knowing that there was an earthquake in Japan and that production was affected, I'll be happy if I see the truck in 8 weeks. As far as I'm concerned, it'll get here when it gets here and I'm not out any money until it arrives.
Expect the worst, hope for the best.

I checked today have a Limited with some added options on order and they called back after checking and said it was still on the boat outside Houston, maybe due to flooding in area, and maybe would be off-loaded tomorrow and was supposed to be at dealer on the 18th. I too was looking for VIN number.
