Anyone Else Waiting for Their New 4Runner

So I just got an email from my dealer with the following statement:
"...Toyota has issued a temporary VIN for your vehicle."
What does that mean?!?
When I went to the dealer to put down a deposit, they gave me a spec sheet with a VIN#. It was really a weird VIN with letters in places where numbers should have been. 2.5 months later when my pro arrives, I compare the VIN, and they both are completely different, but the pro arrived with exactly the options the dealer said it would but with a legit VIN.
So, don't worry I think it really is a temporary VIN which means the car is being built and is on it's way!

The dealer sent me the "temporary VIN" and it's a normal VIN with all the letters/numbers in the correct positions. I'd seen elsewhere where a letter was substituted somewhere in the last 6 digits but that isn't the case here.
Either way, we're just trying to guess how much enthusiasm we can let ourselves have. Still patiently waiting...

Toyota issues a temp vin before the vehicle goes into production- then gives it the final vin when the motor gets installed and production is completed.
I'm a NEWB. Live in Ca. Looked for 5 weeks and 10 emails to every local deal I could when a dealer sent an email saying they had TRDP on the showroom floor. Email came in at 9:02 AM, was driving it home by 2:00. Magnetic Grey and absolutely love it!

Finally picked mine up today. Glad to have it. Glad the dealings with dealers is over.
Anyone taken through the custom order on the day
Discussed custom order with dealer over weekend. Seemed to go real smooth. However, I didn't get a confirmation of the order on the day. Said I would be sent one once it got placed in by the inventory manager at some point this week.. Am somewhat dubious about this -there was no confirmation on the options apart from a sheet of paper with handwritten specs. Did anyone else have a similar custom order experience..

I didn't even know they were making a TRDP in grey! I wish I had known that last Znovember when I got my Trail premium. Wife refused to drive a black, white, or that TRD Ted truck. :/. Mine just happened to be on the lot and the manager (whom I went to school with) knew I was looking for one. I got mine off the truck in one day but wound up with silver which I don't love. Are all the 4runners taking a while to get or just the trail and TRDs or?? I also recently read that my wonderful FJ is increasing in price and some newer trucks are trading in for more than they were purchased for!! Is everybody flocking to the T4R now then?

When I ordered mine in mid-May, they told me they only input them on the first of the month. I called and confirmed it was entered into the system.

Dealer called me this morning....
Said that they had access to a White TRD Pro like what we're looking for. The only problem is that it had $2,400 worth of accessories/dealer markups that we didn't want and they weren't willing to negotiate on any of the accessories/dealer markup.
So we're still on the build wait list with no build date.
If anyone out there's looking for a Super White TRD Pro with the following accessories, look up a Toyota Dealer in Spartanburg, SC.
Said that they had access to a White TRD Pro like what we're looking for. The only problem is that it had $2,400 worth of accessories/dealer markups that we didn't want and they weren't willing to negotiate on any of the accessories/dealer markup.
So we're still on the build wait list with no build date.
If anyone out there's looking for a Super White TRD Pro with the following accessories, look up a Toyota Dealer in Spartanburg, SC.

April 1, 2016: Supposedly "allocated" (ordered?)
June 27, 2016: still waiting
July 8, 2016: Arrived in Portland, Oregon
July 26, 2016: Arrived at dealer
August 3, 2016: Picking up my 4Runner!
Emailed my salesman to see if he's heard anything (was told to expect it at the end of July). I'm aware of the production issues due to Mother Nature, but I'm getting anxious (especially since I'm replacing a 14-year old Saturn beater).
How many weeks did it take for some of you to get your T4R once it was allocated/ordered?
Update: I did get surprised with the advertising fee ($654; option code TDA), but was able to negotiate away the equivalent of half of that (final price for my 4Runner TE, including mount/balance/alignment with my custom tires and TRD Pro matte black wheels was $37,772). This delayed me picking up my 4Runner because of work/training out of town.

Yep. I had to bite it and pay for stuff that I didn't want either. But either I kept waiting for the exact build that I wanted or risk not getting one at all. In CA the dealers will add on all this stuff because they know if you don't buy it, someone else will and really I have not seen a non-optioned TRDpro for sale around the Bay Area.
