Anyone feel like beating a dead horse?

don't forget about FJ Cruiser springs and 5th gen springs. Good alternative to 99's and the wire is much thicker as well. The budget conscious can find these at salvage yards or craigslist with ease and a lot of them have very little to no miles on them.

The 906's are the stiffest springs OME makes for the 3rd gen. Everything I've heard says they hold weight very well. One more thing to check before you lift is your LBJ's. Personally I would just replace them for peace of mind. Not worth the trouble they cause when they fail.

Unner Thanks man, that's definitely on the list. My mechanic said they looked fine but I'm hoping to just do it all in one marathon build over fall break; Shocks, coils, lbj, outer and inner tie rods, sway bar bushings, the whole deal. Haha and whatever I can to put on before then.

Just chiming in here. I have the SS 7.2 kit (Tundra TRD adjustable coilovers, OME 891/Bilstein 5100's in rear) and the ride is stiff. Be prepared for that. I do run E load tires at ~35-40psi, so that probably contributes. But I'd still guess the suspension is a little too stiff for the average guy. Mostly the smaller sharp bumps is where its rough, but again, that could definitely be the tires. However, the ride on the highway is supreme, I believe because of the shocks and how damp they are.

Edit: Currently running the front on 3rd from the bottom perch, with that I see no need for the sway bar in front because of the stiffness of the suspension. Also, the stiffness has limited the up travel of the suspension noticeably.

you sound like me 1.5 yrs ago.

IMO, I would get the tundra or equivalent front so cause w/ the Bilstein 5100s you have the option to adjust the heights.

or keep your eyes open for 99 used coils. I sold mine for $65 for the entire set. (4 springs)

for the rear, i found used lc 8s (rickashay like setup) from a LC mechanic in up north for $85 shipped.

Another thought is that when I started 1.5 yrs ago, I thought I wanted something modest lift like 1-2in lift, but my dark/hungry side took over and I am glad I got the 3-3.5 in lift and I want coilovers now. At least w/ tundra/5100 in the front you have option to raise it higher in the future.

This is the exact setup I used to have. As far as the rake, you can set up the front however you'd like with the adjustable bilstiens. As Far as the back, the 906s gave a solid 2 inches (22" hub to fender). They hold weight quite well, better than the 890s IMO. at one point I had over 600# over the rear axle and it sagged less than half an inch. For a relatively inexpensive mild lift I really liked this setup.

Here is my experience with a rig almost identical to yours. I just installed the same new Tundra bilsteins at all 4 corners, new OME 906's in the rear and 99 Talls in the front(used with over 100k miles). I am currently a 2wd SR5 as well(4wd swap in the works). Don't do any preload on the front shocks with the 99 talls or you will end up with reverse rake - I speak from experience. I thought I needed preload and had to redo it to drop it down. My ride is completely level with the used 99 talls in the front and the new 906's in the rear. In fact, I might add the OME 10mm trim packers to the rear coils to give a slight rake.

The ride is much better than the stock stuff that I took off(185k miles old!). The setup you picked is a great setup and you can't go wrong with it for a mild lift.

Good info so far in this thread.

As someone who is running nearly the exact same setup as you, my advice to you would be "don't do it." Hold out for a far superior 2.5" setup (2.5" refers to the shock body diameter, not the lift granted by the setup) from King or Icon and never look back. I have the Tundra/LC, and after driving a truck with a full 2.5" setup, I no longer enjoy driving my truck nearly as much. It's harsh, jarring off road, and leaves much to be desired on-road as well.

You can get a full King setup for ~$1,800, and it's worth every penny imo. So in short, don't do your proposed lift, don't sell yourself short. I wish every day I had just saved up a little longer and done it right.
