Anyone Hack the RR Diff lock light to be used with Air Locker?

I thought this would be a kinda cool idea. if when I flipped my air locker switch the RR Diff Lock light would illuminate on my dash.

So I took my gauge cluster out and found where I bulb should be for the RR Diff Light. A quick run to Toyota and I had a socket and bulb for the the gauge cluster. I then traced the circuit to see where to connect a wire to. I stuck a wire in to the one that connects to the light. Whenever you ground that wire the light turns on.

This is what happens when I ground the wire, I was in 4WD.


The switch for my locker has two grounding wires, one power wire, and an on/off wire that goes to the solenoid on the air compressor.

Is there any way to wire the light into my locker switch so it turns on when I turn the locker on?

So it's a single pole wire. How does that make this doable? haha

Subscribed. I've been wanting to do this forever, I've got an Elocker retrofit so mine would be different, but still wanna see how you do it.

How much was it for the bulb and socket, did you get any part #'s?

probably the easiest way would be to ground the light permanently somewhere in the dash, and then run the power feed for the light to the air locker switch, so when you flip the switch and give the solenoid for the airlocker power you give the light its power as well you would just need a small like 18 or 20 awg wire, those bulbs dont draw a lot

That's the thing though, I have no idea where the power comes from, but it powers all of the lights on the gauge cluster. I assume you've seen the back of are gauge cluster.


I'll get a part number for the bulb in a couple minutes!

Look at the back of the gauge cluster, and you can follow the silver lines, they are the conductors, think of them as wires....you can follow them back to the harness and figure out which wire is the power or ground for the RR Diff Lock light.

It's not fun, I did it to find the 4wd indicator light

i thought you found where the power and ground are for that socket... wasnt that in your first post here? maybe i just read that wrong. anyhow you just have to pull power from the switch for the air locker. -from the signal to the solenoid, that way when you flip the swtich it turns the light on in the dash.

yes i have seen the back of the cluster, there are two main plugs on the back side of it... it would probably help of someone with a factory elocker took pics of their plugins, and one of us without the elocker took a pic of ours and compared the two.

it should be just a signal wire either missing from the plug or just ghosted there and not being used. you could also trace the the circuit on the back of the cluster to find its corresponding pin i would think...

Part Number for Socket and Bulb from Toyota 83120-02030

There are three main plugs on the back of my cluster. I have found the wire that is the ground for the light. The wire that provides power to the light I have yet to find.

the ground is probably your signal then.... you will need to hook that to the ground on the air locker switch and that should do it then.

i still think the ground is the signal, as with most of the electrical on our runners the ground is the switch/signal... just have to find another way to get it on the switch, but then again im not a good electrical guy or engineer by any means so... i am no expert

The wire that is power for the RR diff light controls all of the dash lights. So putting a switch there won't work either.

So from what I understand when you ground the wire that you found, the RR Diff lock lights up. This is a super simple fix then.
All you need is a 5 pin relay. Wire it up so that when you are providing power to the relay it grounds that wire you found.

Connect it this way and see what happens, but use a test light to verify everything before hooking it up to your gauge cluster.

30 - Ground
85 - Ground
86 - To the side of the switch for your locker that is HOT when switch is on
87 - To the wire that you ground to make the light turn on.
